Katie Holmes got tired of Scientology?

Here's a fun way to pass the time in any major city: Whenever you see a Scientology gathering, yell out "Lisa McPherson! Lisa McPherson!"

Or you could ask to see one of those stupid little auditing machines and ask them if it gets 1010 WINS or something.

As far as I can tell, by far the biggest difference between Scientology and other religions is that Scientology is the only one that doesn't want its theology and doctrines to be public knowledge. Say what you like about the craziness of Mormonism - and I'll say quite a lot - but at least they willingly and even cheerfully give people their whole and complete fairy tale up front. .

I don't know about that. I asked some door knockers about how they were all going to get a planet of women when the died and they shoved some papers at me and left in a hurry.

That's because it is. While I don't hold anything against the innocent believers/followers, the chain of authority near the top (and at the very top) is culpable. They are evil. They are malevolent.

I read many years ago that Elvis Presley was shown around a Scientology "church" and didn't sign up, saying, "this is all crap." Long Live the King.

Also, Katie simply decided not to renew the option on her contract. ;)

The release of the latest Batman movie might have played a role. Her career has taken a nose dive since marrying Cruise, and there were always rumors that Cruise was somehow responsible for Holmes declining to appear in the Dark Knight.

Yeah! He said "There's no way I'm getting involved with that son-of-a-bitchin' group. All they want is my money." Go Elvis!

And, GO JASON BEGHE!!!!

I just hope Holmes was smart enough to keep her mouth shut during auditing and not really reveal much about herself, because it could get really ugly if Scientology presents all the files they have on her to the public.

Maybe she's high-profile enough to get out of this ok, but on the other hand seeing how deranged Miscavige is, maybe he wants to make a point especially because of her celebrity status as a warning to other Scientologists who think about defecting, and as a favour to Cruise...

Anyway, good for Siri to get out of there before she's damaged too badly.

I would imagine she has plenty of dirt on Cruise himself, if he were ever to try and play dirty with her.

.

Maybe. But she probably signed all sorts of NDAs about that stuff. Scientology on the other hand has very little reluctance about releasing auditing files of people who oppose them, at least for "normal" dissidents.

Well, we've all been assuming that Katie is fed up with Scientology, but what if she's divorcing Cruise because an auditor or senior CS said Tom was refusing an ethics cycle and had too many overts, while she was an EPF that became an OT and was upset by the N-theta reactions to Tom's leaked speech, which even the CC had to spin to herself?

These people end up so screwed up in the head that normal logic and experience don't apply.

BTW, one of my late blog commenters served in the Navy with L. Ron Hubbard, and said that even then he was talking about making up a religion and making lots of money. I'd bet LRH's brief naval experience explains the existence of the Sea Org.

That theory's extremely unlikely imo for two reasons:
1) because it would be major, major Scientology news if Cruise was in trouble with Scientology. It would be impossible to keep that quiet, and
2) while "normal logic and experience" may not apply to Scientologists, Cruise is so high up in the "Church", that normal logic and experience" regarding Scientology don't apply to him. I would be shocked if Cruise has ever had to do any "ethics cycles" or if auditors even tell him there's anything wrong with his readings.

I saw that today and thought exactly the same thing! :D

Yes, Rupert Murdoch speaks authoritatively on weird and evil. Personal experience is the best teacher.

In the US, the doctrine of separation of church and state is essentially a thing of the past. The Republicans are committed to devising as many financial and political supports for "religion" as they can wiggle by the ever more corrupt judicial system. Of course their definition of religion is highly politicized. Christian Science, Jehovah's Witnesses, Unitarians, Wiccans, Raelians, Metropolitan Community Churches (generic Protestant gay congregations,) etc. need not apply. Since the bar is down, it really is time to legislate quality controls on churches that provide psychotherapy. That obviously targets the Scientologists. But Focus on the Family and Exodus would have their crank psychotherapy scams shut down too. Of course they could still pass the offering plate around the sanctuary on Sundays!;)

Supposing that she did spill all her beans, why would they necessarily have anything particularly juicy on her? Assuming she doesn't have any deep, dark secrets that'd cause society to shun her, any leaked info would probably reflect much worse on the Church than on her.

The New York Post reports that she's out and about with a new crew of bodyguards, terrified that Scientologists will kidnap her daughter (the story was linked by Drudge). The divorce is apparently because she fears Cruise will ship her daughter off to Sea Org, the nuttiest of the nutty, where kids as young as five are used as slave labor under a billion-year contract.

Now she can't say people didn't warn her 5 years ago, because almost everyone did. Does the brainwash wear off at some point or was she just very, very, VERY gullible?
