Excuse me. Proper grammar, please. That's U.S.S. ?.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

If anyone really wants the answer to that question, I recommend you head over to the Raise the Dawn thread, it has been answered.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Got book #2 today.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Downloaded this and Raise the Dawn on my Nook this morning. I'm about about a page into this one so far, and couldn't be anymore excited to read these books.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Waited until Raise The Dawn was out to finish this one. Damn fine stuff. I loved the way he gathered and reframed the previous Typhon Pact novels - this is exactly the sense of narrative drive and interconnectedness I felt they were missing.

Plus, this novel alone could've been four, with whole novels devoted to the Robinson and Enterprise missions, but I enjoy the pace TrekLit is moving at these days. I'm worried it's ultimately unsustainable, as major plot developments happen really quickly, but I couldn't be happier with the ride as it is now.

I'm starting Raise The Dawn in 30 seconds. Man, what a cliffhanger.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Just finished this book myself and waiting to start on Raise the Dawn. Mr. George, terrific book sir. A book that finally puts together two of my most favorite crews.

Oh you just hold on.

All these Raise the Dawn threads.... having to avoid spoilers until I eventually get mine delivered.... ughhhhh....

At 07:00 Central Daylight Time the TrekBBS member known as KingDaniel's head assploded. Cause of death was determined to be spoileravoidence coupled with gross anticipation. His loss is keenly felt by all. He will be missed.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

I agree on this. I much prefer ships names not named for a particular person or place.

I really like seeing both, particularly ships named after fictitious people and places. It's a reminder that the Federation is its own culture with its own history and its own geography, not just America In Space.

Places I like, it's just people - unless they're looong dead and/or mythical figures - I don't care for.

Excuse me. Proper grammar, please. That's U.S.S. ?.

U.S.S LOL

Pfft, I won't be happy until I see Starfleet ships named Culture-style.

Ah, see, I think that having ships named after fictitious individuals helps sell the idea of the Federation as its own community, with its own unique history and population. If we see ships named U.S.S. Soval, U.S.S. Sarek, U.S.S. Ra-ghoratreii, U.S.S. Jonathan Archer, etc., I think that goes a long way towards establishing a sense of an independent Federation identity.

Oh, your reasoning is completely sensible, I'm just quibbling about the aesthetics of the idea entirely. :ouch:
