Re: Typhon Pact: Raise the Dawn by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Found a copy in the bookstore today and read the first section, "In Media Res," at the store. Waiting for the 26th to finish it when it's released on the Nook.

All I can say is:

Holy crap!

And it gets better. Trust me.

Re: Typhon Pact: Raise the Dawn by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Dammit, I loved being one of the first to read "Plagues of Night" - where's my copy of "Raise the Dawn"??

Amazon: Get. It. To. Me!!

Re: Typhon Pact: Raise the Dawn by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

First part came out really quickly in the UK but Amazon UK's release date for the second isn't til 13th July - so you might have a bit of a wait KingDaniel.

You won't get away with that move twice, I assure you. This time, you suffer like the rest of us! :p

Sometimes I hate living in Canada. We never seem to get the books early.

Re: Typhon Pact: Raise the Dawn by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Spotted it at Coles - Place d'Orléans Mall in eastern Ottawa today, but I'm waiting on Perfect Books in Centretown to deliver my special order. They're pretty good about that sort of thing.

Re: Typhon Pact: Raise the Dawn by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

I orderedfrom amazon.com and hope the book will come in the next week or two. I can't wait to read this book!after the cliffhanger ending I want to know what happens where the story left off:techman:

Where in Canada are you? Here in Toronto i got Raise the Dawn just yesterday.

Vancouver, BC.

Amusingly the official Chapters site says it's not released, yet it ALSO says copies are in certain stores. WTF...? :vulcan:

Will hopefully have it soon.

In many cases, books arrive at the store well ahead of their scheduled release date. In only a few cases, though, are books that arrive ahead of their scheduled release dates held back from the floor--usually huge titles, most famously the Harry Potter novels, but other hardcover betsellers.

Re: Typhon Pact: Raise the Dawn by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Ran out and bought it at my local Barnes & Noble last night.

Without giving anything away, it's definitely a nice coda for a few characters and great step in a new direction for others.

Re: Typhon Pact: Raise the Dawn by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Coda? So does that mean we can expect some deaths?

Re: Typhon Pact: Raise the Dawn by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

I wouldn't say that. And that's not me being evasive. I just meant that it's good to see a resolution. I like endings. And I like to see it when a character's arc concludes.

Re: Typhon Pact: Raise the Dawn by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Coda? So does that mean we can expect some deaths?

The biggest death--one that was probably inevitable, given what she had done in the two books of the duology--was that of Sela. Indistinguishable from Magic brought out for me the extent to which Sela was a tragic figure, a very talented individual forever caught in the guilt of the moment when, as a very young girl, she screamed in terror and doomed her mother to execution. She was just never able to get past that moment, never able to process things. There's an irony in that it was the threat of being sent to Earth as a prisoner that made her take her own life.

Tomalak seems to have been removed from the board indefinitely. (Imprisoned on Earth by the Federation, left there by the displeased Praetor to make a point.)

At the other end of the moral spectrum, Kira seems to be with the Prophets, now. The Prophets also seem to have taken an extended vacation from the realm of the linear--unsurprising, the way their home kept getting abused.

Yay, ordered it, now gotta wait till this weekend and avoid this topic like the plague, since in the PoN topic, someone just basicly spoiled the entire ending without using any spoilertags. Not going to risk that this time. ;)
