Thanks guys. I wasn't sure if it might have been mentioned in Rough Beasts or Plagues somewhere that I missed, or if perhaps DRGIII had said definitively whom she was named for somewhere online.
In lieu of anything being explicitly established, I would tend to presume that she's named for A.G. Robinson, too, just because presuming she's named for Jackie Robinson seems a little weird -- "We put the black captain on the ship named after a black athletics pioneer." Plus, I have a hard time picturing Starfleet naming ships of the line after professional athletes, even ones who break racial boundaries.
Perhaps it's named after all of these Robinsons?
Otherwise, wouldn't the full name be included (i.e. USS A.G. Robinson)?
Honestly, I'm not a fan of naming ships after individual people anyway, at least not until a looong time has passed. Admittedly that's colored by the US Navy's obnoxious carrier-naving habits.
most likely named for the astronaut played by Phil Morris
Are the Shatner-verse novels canon? Because he's alive there...
Maybe it's USS James T. Kirk because there's already a USS Kirk named after his daddy? Possibly later renamed USS George Samuel Kirk to help differentiate when the James T. was commisioned?
^I believe he can still be contacted through Facebook.

I agree on this. I much prefer ships names not named for a particular person or place.

I really like seeing both, particularly ships named after fictitious people and places. It's a reminder that the Federation is its own culture with its own history and its own geography, not just America In Space.
