(2011)-2012 NBA Season

Congratulations to the new 2012 NBA champions the Miami Heat and the Finals MVP LeBron James. :)

Props to the Heat, but hopefully it's one and done.

I have to ask though, and understand I don't like the team's personality or how it was assembled, the circus surrounding the talents to south beach thing, but Lebron seems to have 'matured', and Wade's always been Wade. Didn't he get custody of his kids from a shrew?

Bosh I just laugh at when he roars because he looks like that dinosaur from Toy Story. But he's a new dad and seems level headed.

Just trying to understand the continuing hatred... with me at this point it's merely a 'meh', not an 'argh!'

Not sure if she was a "shrew" or not, but Wade was already married to her when he started messing around with Gabriel Union. I have more antipathy towards him due to that than anything else. I honestly harbor no ill will towards the Heat or towards LeBron in particular. What they did to assemble this team is little different than what most other clubs have tried to do one way or another. Mind you, I am no fan of the Heat at all, but I recognize a great performance by an excellent team and a career defining one by one of the greatest of all time.

Not to take the piss out of their moment of triumph or anything.... but....

Miami should give their friends up in Boston a call after they've won 15 more of those championships.

If there still is an NBA in 50 years, the Heat definitely will have to do that.

Good for the Heat, I never got all the hate for them. OKC seems like they should be back sometime too.

I love a final game, assuming I got no dog in the fight, when the home team is up 20, or whatever the equivalent in that sport is, and the players and fans are celebrating with time to go. It's hard not to get caught up in the excitement.

I root for the most hated team in my favorite sport (NE Pats), so I have no problem with the Heat, Celtics, Notre Dame, Cowboys, Lakers, etc. winning it all.

Is this post from a Celtics fan still pissed his team got beat by the Heat this year?

I'm not even a big LeBron fan and am happy he won his first title. He certainly deserved it after leading his team in the finals. He silenced the haters, though I guess a few of them will keep complaining as long as he plays basketball.

Yes and no. I am a Celtics fan, point of fact. You're always mad when your team goes down. But I'm not mad the Heat won because they beat the Celtics to get there. It's the Heat's attitude (or, more distinctly, LeBron's attitude), their sense of entitlement that we've been subject to ever since the Big Three got together that makes it painful to recognize that they've reached the top of the mountain.

ANYBODY but LeBron!

I would have been fine with either team winning. Both are talented, but it looks like the Thunder just couldn't get it done.

Don't know why some people hate LeBron so much. He is arrogant, but many players act the same way.

Well, that's it. They're too far down. I love my Thunder, but they're done. Congratulations to the Heat for buying a championship and exemplifying everything that's wrong with pro basketball along the way.

Congratulations to the Heat members other than Dwayne Wade and LeBron. They aren't stained by the douchebag brush nearly so much. They played well. They deserved this championship. The Heat deserved this. They make me sick, but they deserve the NBA title. Sad. :( If it were any other team--Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Antonio, even the Lakers, I could handle it fine. But Miami....that's different. LeBron James getting a ring makes me sick to my stomach. He and Wade are the biggest douchebags in the league. Two icons are born. :barf:

I feel like the Thunder let everyone down. :(
Such grace under duress...

Agree, for the most part but if this is his only championship, I don't know that I'd put him up there with guys like Wilt, Russell, Bird, Magic, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, Duncan. With respect to the GOAT, number of champioships does count.

I have had off court issues with LeBron and on court issues -- last night put the on court issue to rest. You could see that he was on track to slay his basketball demons in game 5 of the Boston series where he unexpectedly led his team to victory in one of the most hostile enviornments (for a road team) in the NBA. He continued his redemption tour through OKC almost without missing a beat. In fact the 5 game "sweep" makes game 1 appear to have been a fluke, especially since they were in position to easily win that game as well.

As I wrote earlier in the thread, getting back to the Finals is really hard and any team that does it is likely a team on a mission. Well the Heat proved that theory to be true once again. Congratulations to them.

I also don't have a problem with the way the Heat were put together. The only difference between the they did it and the way other teams did it was that players made the decision rather than coaches and front office types. I see nothing wrong with that.

Make that 16 more of those championships. Not a Celts fan of course but I wouldn't want anyone to get the Lakers championship totals wrong.

I don't see the Heat repeating next season. It takes a very special team, coaches, owners, and a lot of luck, to make this happen. But doesn't preclude them being a contender for a while.

Apparently, the Celtics were a bunch of bullies. Glad LeBron was able to beat his demons

The other twist of fate: Derrick Rose wrecked his knee in Round 1, propelling the Celtics into the Conference Finals … you know, LeBron's nemesis, the bullies who beat him in 2008 and 2010, the grizzled veterans who were convinced that LeBron would always cave when it mattered most. Garnett and Pierce loved pushing his buttons more than anyone. During their final regular-season road trip to Miami, which turned out to be a surprisingly easy win for the Celtics, they spent the last two minutes busting Wade's balls about LeBron. You picked the wrong guy. You'll never win with that guy. LeBron could hear everything. They didn't care. In Game 5 of their playoff series, Garnett and Pierce pushed things a little further, believing that LeBron was ready to cave again. Down the stretch, Garnett muttered derisive obscenities under his breath anytime LeBron was in earshot, then stuffed him at the rim on a pivotal drive. A little bit later, Pierce nailed a back-breaking 3 right in LeBron's mug, then yelled, "I have the balls to take that!" as he trotted back down the floor.

In retrospect, they pushed him too far. The Celtics regarded LeBron with a surprising amount of disdain — that's why Rondo angrily yelped, "Let's go!" before defending LeBron's final drive of regulation in Game 2. LeBron ended up settling for a 21-footer against someone seven inches shorter than him, followed by Rondo strutting back to the huddle and probably telling his teammates, "I knew he didn't have the balls to come at me." They spent that whole series challenging his manhood; by the end of Game 5, they thought they had broken him. Was that what turned him into a serial killer in Game 6? Not entirely … but it definitely helped. I just don't think LeBron makes LeLeap without the bullies from Boston.

Hey, my team lost and my boss is a Scott Walker lookelike doppelganger king sized schmuck. I idle at duress. He's like the Michigan state GOP senator whatshisname who gave Lisa Brown, his democratic colleague, a time out for saying "vagina" while she had the podium and was disagreeing with the state senate anti abortion circle jerk. I endure his misogynist Republican drivel all day. NBA is my warm fuzzy respite. I see tea parties in my nightmares.

Good lord. Is there ANY question why I despise the Celtics so much? And it's not just these Celtics. I don't know what it is about that franchise that attracts such A-holes and turns so many into such A-holes. It goes all the way back to that old bastard, Auerbach.

What kills me is that the way they act, you would think Garnett, Pierce, Rondo, and Ray, had been winners their entire careers. These guys have just a little more than 7 or 8 playoff appearances, most coming in the last 5 years with Boston.

They did the same thing to Pau in 2008 and 2010 and it motivated Pau to that 2010 championship.

Thanks for posting this.

Wow, a team playing mind games to get under someone's skin. Has this ever happened before? I don't give a rip about either team here, but this is a nonstory.

Bingo!

I've been ripping on the Heat for that stupid "not 1, not 2, not 3... eight world championships" bullshit. I also didn't like LeBron's ESPN waste of time special to announce he was taking his talents to South Beach.
That said, they played a great series and the championship will very well deserved.
I am looking forward to see what the USA Olympic team will be able to do.
