Dead Cat Reborn as Helicopter!

My leather coat may be "disgusting" but it stops me freezing in winter outdoors and you know, doesn't have a face still attached.

I think that's why I find this disturbing. Leather or fur clothing at least still serves a purpose. Even if it's a fashion statement, your leather coat can still keep you warm in the wintertime.

What the hell are we going to use a cat helicopter for?
It's serving a purpose: I doubt this is the only thread on the internet discussing it. There are many purposes for art: to be beautiful, to be shocking, to make a social statement, to make us laugh, or think, or talk, or argue. This cat is serving its purpose and serving it well.
When my cat dies, I'd have a hard enough time being able to look at her without getting sad. I certainly couldn't imagine using her body as a toy.
I couldn't do it to my cat either...the thought to me is horrifying. But that's just my irrational and emotional human brain talking.

And that is, and I admit it, the reason this disturbs me. I have a cat and of the same basic breed as the one in this thread, and it's the idea of someone doing that to her that irks me.

I've always found taxidermy to be rather creepy. Helicopter cat is even more creepy. that said if people like it that's up to them. I just don't like it and find it weird. YMMV.

This. Although, I would've bypassed "weird" and gone straight for "fucked in the head."

I too find this incredibly disturbing and I am outraged as a cat owner. I try and deal with my shock and disgust through humor, hence the following images I found online, censored for your protection.

Duh duh duh duh duuuh, duh duh duh duh duuuh, DUH DUH DUH DUH DUUUH, duh duh duh duh duh.

In seriousness, I wouldn't do this with my cat, but it was already dead so I don't see the big deal. It's certainly served its purpose as a piece of art in drawing attention and discussion.

Like some others, I wouldn't have this done to my dog either. I do personally think it's a bit tacky, but as others have said, it's also gaining attention (if only for shock value) as a piece of art, and that's never a bad thing. Shocking art gets people thinking. Thinking is good.

^Clearly you have your priorities wrong. People need helicopters way more than they need clothes. Besides, everyone knows that flying in the nude is the only way to fly.

 Well said, I retract my mistaken priorities.

I don't think you can do anything with leather that you can't do with synthetic fibers now.

There's no way to justify fur or leather clothing on the basis of utility for most of the developed world.

Granted, of course. I should have said that the older utility behind fur/leather has made it commonplace/acceptable for most of society, thus not horrifying.

But even then, it doesn't cover taxidermy. Moose head on the wall? Now that is disgusting. And with no practical use.

You know, heads of animals killed by hunters on the wall - well, unless excessive amounts - doesn't really bother me somehow. Though I guess I got used to it since my elementary and middle schools both had an elk head on their gym wall.

What the hell are we going to use a cat helicopter for?

Rodent surveillance and possible use for drone assault on gophers.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I find them tacky and horrifying, a vestige of a brutal, tribalistic society. At least Helicat has the advantage of novelty value, humour and affection. This to say: it's all in the eyes of the beholder. ;)

Did you see the video of this on CNN? They show the dead cat's brother going up to him and sniffing him. He must be so confused!! I think turning your dead cat into a helicopter is wrong! I think it is one thing to stuff your dead cat and another to turn him into a helicopter!

Indeed. :techman:

Though I recommend never going to the Texas Roadhouse if you're ever in the States... well I mean, for many reasons I guess.

Indeed! The former is mundane, the latter is art!

As to traditional taxidermy, it does creep me out. My uncle is an avid hunter, and his entire house is decorated with deer, moose, birds, and even a whole fucking mountain lion. I always had nightmares after visiting his place.

I find a flying stuffed cat hauntingly beautiful and fitting.
I guess my opinion is somewhat swayed by the opinion that cats are evil.

Why? It's a dead body. His cat is gone, why do we have this ridiculous obsession with respecting the corpse?
