Loved at the tail end of Cap giving orders. Cap finally turns to Hulk and says simply, "Hulk...smash." :guffaw: :techman:

I assume you just mean comic book villains. If you mean movie villains then I have to disagree. Heath Ledger's Joker was outdone in sheer villainy and acting gravitas the year after The Dark Knight debuted. Christoph Waltz in The Inglorious Basterds set the new bar for big screen villainy. He made Heath Ledger's Joker look like Caesar Romero's Joker. I certainly hope he gets the chance to play a villain in an upcoming Marvel Studios production. Waltz would make a magnificent Dr. Doom.

Actually, the words "Super-Soldier" were explicitly mentioned by Blonsky when Ross was explaining the WW2 project to him, much to Ross's apparent surprise.

Am I the only one getting a Ronan the Accuser vibe from the mwahhahaha type villain pulling Loki's strings on *Spoiler*'s behalf? And how would that make sense considering the dude's originally Kree?

Also, for some reason I interpreted all promo imagery of the Chitauri as them having four legs, not sure why.

Fox has the rights to the FF and Doom, not Marvel Studios, so Waltz couldn't play Doom in a Marvel Studios movie.

Oh, I know that. I should have separated that last sentence from that paragraph. I think he would be best as Doom, but I'm sure there are a number of villains he would be magnificent as. Though I do suppose I'm typecasting the man a tad. He's a brilliant actor. He could play anything.

Waltz wouldn't make a bad Ultron.

This movie is going to sail by $1B and keep going and is going to have some awesome staying power in theaters.

Do you really need to ask this question?

Consider that for much of the last two Transformer movies a bulk of the movie was pretty much filled with Shia LeBouf's antics and very little of the Transformers in comparison. Here the movie's heroes are front-and-center on stage.

Then we get to big action piece and it's better presented and laid out, you can tell who is who and what's going on instead of just big mash of grays and metals. And, again, no Shia Lebouf screaming antics. The differences between the two movies are huge. in the way the characters are presented (ignoring they all pretty much had their set-up movie) the humor not based of racism, slapstick, or someone playing grab-ass with Bumblbee and the action is entertaining. The action pieces at the end of the last two Transformer movies gave me a headache and want to kill Shia Lebouf. The action piece at the end of The Avengers made want more and to kiss ScarJo.

How can you not see these two movies and see the very big differences in them in how they're made, presented, and treat their hero -main- characters?

I'm sure The Avengers will be hanging in at first run theaters well into July. Might even hang around the second run joints until September, depending on when the Blu-Ray release happens. This movie looks to have excellent feet.

Part of what is amazing is that they were able to make this work. A group of diverse characters meshed into one outing could have turned out in such a mediocre to train-wreck way...and yet it came off brilliantly.

Could it knock Titanic off its perch? And nice to see a film reach $1 billion that doesn't have Cameron's name attached to it.

Titanic was knocked off its perch a few years back. It's Avatar that's the new target. Or maybe James Cameron in general. ;)

Yeah, looking ahead I'm not sure there's really anything coming out between now and July that's going the threaten The Avengers. Sure there's stuff coming out but nothing really that's going to have quite the same draw and potential this one has. I doubt it'll stay #1 but I also don't think it'll drop too low either. It staying #1 for two and half months isn't entirely realistic. (But I guess not impossible either.) July brings us Spider-man and then The Dark Knight Returns which should both do well. (Surprised Spider-Man wasn't released in June rather than July they only gave it a week or two before it gets swamped by The Dark Knight Returns.)

Titanic was already "knocked off its perch" by Avatar which holds the #1 spot in worldwide box office grosses (non-adjusted) at $2.78 Billion, followed by Titanic at $2.12 Billion (including the recent re-release.) I think The Avengers will easily flirt with $2B worldwide and, hell, it just might knock Avatar down.

The movie was great. The story did a good job of tying all the Marvel films together and set us up nicely for you know who in the next one.

Downey, Hemsworth, Hiddleston, Evans and Jackson were very good, but no surprises there. I gotta admit, however, that I hope there's an "unrated" outtake there of Nick Fury saying he is sick of these muthafuckin' Asgardians on this muthafuckin' helicarrier.

Scarlet and the guy from the Hurt Locker were a little weak. Scarlett is, of course, remarkably hot and looked good in the outfits they put her in but she still can't act and thinks making "the blue steel" face makes her look tough. It doesn't. Renner did a good job for how Hawkeye was written but I prefer a Clint Barton who is a little more of a swashbuckler wiseass.

The real surprise was Ruffalo's Hulk. This was the first time the character has completely worked in a movie. The Hulk scenes were probably the highlights of the movie, especially the one near the end with Loki.

Didn't Avatar knock off TDK which knocked off Titanic first?

Either way, I think the 3D version put Titanic back at number 1

Nope. The Dark Knight sat in the #2 slot until Avatar knocked it into #3. If things go the way I want then The Dark Knight will get knocked down to the #4 slot. I really hate Avatar so I'm hoping that The Avengers avenges my displeasure. :D

Well I don't hate Avatar, but I wasn't that impressed by it. I wouldn't mind see Avengers top it.

See my edit on the various Top 10s, from Box Office Mojo.

Unfortuantely there's no Top 10 Worldwide adjusted for inflation.
