Netflix Revival?!

Latest rumor is that "Jericho" may be brought back by Netflix. The post-nuclear strike series starring Skeet Ulrich, Gerald McRaney and Lenny James, was on CBS back in 2006, cancelled but brought back for 7 episodes after fan protest.

According to Netflix, "Jericho" is one of their most popular downloads. These talks are in the VERY early stages. I LOVED "Jericho," should've been on cable, not the CSINCIS network and it would be sweeeeet to have the show revived! Netflix HAS revived "Arrested Development," popular cult series.

Okay, have no idea how "Enterprise" does on Netflix, but if its doing really well on downloads...think of the possibility! "Jericho" didn't last two seasons and "Enterprise" was on for 4, with Season 4 gaining an audience but not enough for the old UPN to greenlight season 5. I contributed to the TrekUnited revival effort back in '04 but we all know how that turned out! But, if "Jericho" does comes back...I repeat, think of the POSSIBILITIES!!;)

Sorry, but that ship has sailed. Nobody is interested in reviving the story of the NX-01. JJ Abram's Trek is where it's at right now.

Hi Jon,

Anways, the problem is not Netflix or any potential network, it is it's owner, CBS. They just do NOT want to do (or give permission to do, if its another network) a series right now, let alone bring back any previous series. The only thing I could ever see is a reunion type tv movie, but thats only if Moonves is replaced by a new CEO that is a trekkie. :)

BTW I would love to see a 3rd season of Jericho !

CBS has no reason to be interested in Star Trek because they have no good outlet for it. I can't see it working well on CBS, the CW or Showtime. In fact, there's no place on broadcast or cable where it would really make a lot of sense, not even Syfy.

However, Les Moonves has stated that he sees Netflix as essentially just another outlet for CBS content (in contrast to other networks and movie studios who see Netflix as the enemy.) That bodes very well for future CBS-Netflix joint projects.

And Netflix is a good place for Star Trek, an unusually strong brand name that has a significant following who might be induced to subscribe to Netflix just for that one series alone. It's a globally famous, generally well-regarded brand that would give Netflix a lot of good PR, at a time when they sure can use it. It's riding the coattails of a (so far) successful movie series. I can't think of any other TV show that could be revived that have all those pluses in its favor.

The downside, as ever, is the budget. Jericho would be far cheaper to make than any space opera series.

However - there's no particular reason that Netflix would revive ENT. More likely, they'd want an all-new series, with new characters. If it's tied to anything, it will be to the JJ Abrams movies, since they are getting all the PR now.

An all-new series would avoid the problem of limited appeal to just this or that segment of fandom. For every person who loves ENT, there's at least one other who would reject the series just on that basis alone. And it means that CBS could have freedom in casting the series, not worrying about getting back certain actors.

Yeah, yeah, surrrrrrrrrrre it is...

Yes, it is. Some fans don't like it? Tough, some fans don't like anything that doesn't suit their prejudices. Truth is, Abrams's movie is so enormously successful that the studio won't consider anything that doesn't dovetail with it and support it.

Yes, it is actually. Except for a few haters that hate because hating is hipster, Star Trek under JJ Abram's is one of the critically best recieved Trek's ever, if not THE best recieved, by both fans and non-fans.

I know plenty of non-fans who've seen it, and thought it was such a cool movie. My girlfriend, who thought SF was ok, but never liked Star Trek, has become so interested in Trek thanks to Abrams, that by now she's a huge DS9 fan.

So yeah, you're argument is kinda invalid.

It's been six years since the show ended so even if CBS was interested in making Trek on TV (or equivalent) again, they would make it for a broader audience to avoid low ratings from occurring again.

I don't know... when the Star Trek sequel hits cinemas, Enterprise might work very well being publicised in connection. Riding in on its coat-tails sure enough but... that whole "Before Kirk and Spock" promo all over again (flash up a clip of Pine & Quinto), the early days of Starfleet and beginning of the Federation.

Episodes like "Demons" & "Terra Prime" (Peter Weller), the Augment trilogy, anything with Klingons in them, anything with Vulcans in them, COULD *theoretically* be very relevant viewing indeed.

I'm looking at the photos being leaked from the production, and maybe seeing things that aren't there OR adding two and two together to get five... but that's how HYPE works. You bring your suppositions to the table, and are sometimes right, more often wrong. But go back over old Star Trek, in order to try to second guess what new Star Trek might revisit and rework next.

Too late for a fifth season obviously, but the interest might upswing again and Paramount/CBS aren't likely to shun a chance to turn Enterprise around and make a profit off it.

No offense (because I know you love ENT), but that's just not going to happen. In CBS's mind, the show was considered a failure. Conversely, Abrams's movie has shown what is needed for success: Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty and the rest. IF CBS creates a new series (and that's a big IF), they're not going to continue with what they deemed to be something that didn't work. As the poster before you stated, CBS (unlike UPN or the syndication market) needs to make a Trek series that appeals to the general public, not just a relatively small niche market of hard-core Trekkies (which early publicity for ENT said they were trying to do but obviously weren't. Throwing in silly decon-chamber flesh scenes in a pitiful effort to "sex-up" Trek is NOT catering to the general audience).
