Considering how close that video is to every thread on this board about life-like robots, I serious used to wonder if Seth Green or one of his cohorts used to lurk here. I dunno, maybe the desire to boff robots is universal.

I think I've fallen in love with this thread; trust digits to start a classic.

You know, talking of investment potential, I'd actually consider chipping in some capital into a solid/genuine venture because this idea has real legs. Well, artificial legs, but you know what I mean... combine it with this technology in the news today, when both techs reach full maturation, and think what a smart internet porn provider could sell.

I was half serious about the Don't Date Robots video concept from Futurama. If they were life-like enough, would some people stop bothering with relationships? If you could construct your perfect mate, with no entanglements, no threat of disease or unwanted pregnancy, no headaches, no monthly cycle, wouldn't it follow that a certain percentage would basically become addicted and check out of society?

Possibly, especially socially awkward people. But some people like the drama and the chase and all the 'baggage' that comes with a relationship.

And some people crave being loved. I'm not sure a robot could properly fulfill that need no matter how advanced its programming.

I'm sure it'd work for some people though.

I would imagine most people care a great deal more about sex, than either of those.

Well, hmm. I think it's too far off/mixed with thoughts of bad sci-fi to think about it that seriously. I think if it was very mainstream, it would be somewhere on a continuum of unacceptable behaviors, where different people have different limits. Like, your husband looking at porn, going to a strip club, having robot sex, having extramarital human sex.

It would be a long time before people would openly talk about having a relationship of this nature. It took awhile just for people to be comfortable admitting that they met online. I imagine this would carry stigma for a longer amount of time.
