I don't think STV is that terrible

I saw it in a "preview screening" the night before it opened and knew that it was not going to be well received. It's a bad movie, period.

While many fans will cling to the positives of the three main characters being good, it shouldn't have had to come at the expense of making every other crew member backstabbing conformists. Even Scotty knocks himself out by merely walking into a raised platform.

And the Klingons Captain's motivation for wanting to murder Kirk? Because he's bored. And this is a Klingon Captain that is the Klingon Council's "go to" Captain when they need critical business done.

^ I feel sorry for those who can't be critical of a film made poorly, written poorly, ill conceived and poorly executed.

You can go ahead and keep feeling bad for me the. Since it's my favorite of TOS films and I also think it's the best directed as well.

Guys, the poster above this comment used the same language for the opposite point, i was merely showing how ridiculous that attitude was. "I FEEL SORRY FOR..." is what HE said.

Please read the post above when a person uses the ^ symbol.

I have never thought STV was a ba film. I remember enjoying the story as far back as Opening Night on Friday, June 9, 1989. I went with my father, sister and a friend of hers. I was excited to watch the drama unfold and never thought it was terrible or anything like that. I feel sorry for those who love to openly be critical of "The Final Frontier" as they are really missing out and just don't get it.

Bold added for those who don't read previous posts. Now tell this guy to be nicer, so your feelings and sensibilities don't get hurt...

Did I mention that ST V is that terrible?

 Patronising and condescending much?

Hey, dude, look at the poster above my post, I was just echoing his condescending attitude. Thanks for playing.:rolleyes:
Right back at you, "dude". Take a look at your post, #36, in this very thread, then go back and actually read the whole thread again to discover you got it totally wrong. I even picked you up on it, but you elected not to comment. Play the game, "dude".:rolleyes:

Wow, I don't know what you are on about, just that you took my recent post out of context, friend. Keep your  to yourself. I'm not playing a game just posting on a Star Trek board that ST V was indeed a bad film. Relax, dude.

1) Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

2) That said, the shared understanding is, usually, "My opinion is better than yours."

3) Star Trek V has its moments.

4) Star Trek V is not the best directed of the films.

I'll admit I did watch it also, but only so I'd know what I was talking about if I ever wanted to participate in a discussion about it. I'm also a big believer in not complaining or criticizing a movie till I've seen it.

That said, the underlying attempt at deeper meaning of the storyline and the characterization in Sucker Punch is sorely lacking and mostly troubling in its view of women.

In short, its a turd.

^ I feel sorry for those who can't be critical of a film made poorly, written poorly, ill conceived and poorly executed. When the producer admits the he blew it, and jeopardized the entire franchise, you my friend have a bad film.

Enjoying it on 6/9/89 as I did, doesn't mean its not a bad film. It means we were younger, less critical and hungry for a new Trek film.

I was certainly younger, but when I first saw the movie, we had Star Trek: TNG on television, and Star Trek VI was playing in the theaters. I loved the film, and still do to this day. It's my second favorite Star Trek movie overall. I like the concept, love the interaction between the Big Three, loved the opening sequence, loved that they used the Jerry Goldsmith TMP/TNG fanfare, and speaking of, the ST:V soundtrack is (arguably) the best Trek soundtrack when compared to the other movies.

Just because its your favorite doesn't mean its any good.

There are lots of things that are generally regarded as "crap" that I love or are my "favorites."

But I've never lost sight of the fact that, d'oh, just because I like it doesn't mean it's qualitatively good.

I didn't say anyone else had to agree it was good, just that the reasons I liked it (and still like it) extend beyond, and exclude, the idea that I was less discerning because it was readily available, seen during a dearth of Star Trek content, and that I was young and naive.

Oh, I'm perfectly relaxed "dude". If you don't understand what I'm on about I suggest you read the thread over from the top. Your response to me differed considerably in tone to that of your response to Aldo reference the same quote. His was a general "hey guys, I was only..." type thing. With me, it was flippant "thanks for playing, "dude" commentary - which, to me, was somewhat inflammatory and laced with attitude. Talk about teapot and kettle with the rolleyes comment.
