Ear Rings

^

27 years and not a problem here. Then again, no one ever said I was normal. I tend to heal very quickly. Evidently the area around the stud "healed" while I was wearing it, so nothing has every really been open or at risk for infection.

Ziyal, tell me about it. I have irked more than on woman because of it. Like I said, not normal. :D

Sorry, but you're saying that to the wrong woman. I don't paint my finger nails, rarely wear heels or makeup, shave my legs only in shorts/capris season, and had a career in a field that was 90% male when I started. Do I conform in many other ways? Of course. But, believe me, if I didn't love earrings, I wouldn't wear them.

You sound a lot like me. I don't paint my nails (doesn't work when you bite them and don't give a damn what anyone says about the habit of biting them), wear only minimal makeup, and yeah...only shave my legs in the summer.

As far as heels, I won't wear anything more than 1-1.5 in. My bad back and bad balance pretty much nix that idea--and I've had a bad back since my late teens, so I never got into heels.

My mom never pressured me into getting my ears pierced; we only discussed it when I expressed an interest, which was at about 14 years old.

One ear healed quickly; another got infected repeatedly, but I do not regret my decision to have them pierced. I even had fun wearing a Bajoran-style earring to a con recently. (Which, BTW, does not require a cartilage piercing; the part that goes around the top of your ear is a cuff instead, like this.)

I have both ears pierced, and I wear simple garnet studs. I have zero interest in getting anything else pierced, thankyouverymuch. (Ow.)

I've been considering getting a tattoo for a few years, but haven't yet. I'm thinking a Starfleet arrowhead, but with a blue maple leaf as the symbol inside. Though anyone who recognizes what fandom the blue maple leaf would represent would understand why I'm so hesitant about it... :sigh:

Just wait until they win a cup to get it.

If you can! ;)

I wear higher than that, but not regularly. I did wear a pair to the doctor's recently, just to show off that I could do it. Doctor loved it. :D

Mine didn't either. I was 35 when I got my ears pierced, and she thought I was out of my mind.

Ooh, I'd like a Bajoran earring.

Same applies to those wearing flats rather than heels, though personally, I'm all for ramping up the social convention pressure in a heels direction on that one! :D

Holdfast, I challenge you to wear heels for a week and then say that again. :)

No, no, no, the beauty of social convention within a largely patriachal society in this case is that nicely reinforces the fact that it's your lot that have to wear the heels, and we just get to enjoy the view. :p :D

TheSeeker, I'm going to be 45 years old this year. They haven't won it in my lifetime (I was born a couple of months too late), and I may not have that long left. It might take them another 45 years! :p

I've got my ears pierced five times, both lobes and my left cartilage. I don't wear my lobe earrings unless it's a special occasion, but I always have the one in my cartilage. Right now, it's a 4G and I plan on making it bigger.

Not being terribly au fait with piercing lingo, I initially got a mental image of a 4G-capable cellphone being embedded in the piercing.

Probably will be reality this time next year.

I am allergic to metal in earrings,l but I found a brand years ago called Simply Whispers that I can wear. :D I enjoy having pierced earrings and being able to look dressed up.

I'm highly allergic as well...it's probably nickel that does it. I can wear only solid gold, platinum, or silver. I don't look good in gold, so most all my earrings are silver and platinum. You might be able to get away with surgical grade stainless steel, but in my experience even that can be somewhat irritating.

You can bet the Japanese are working on it.

I should nail my flag to the post here and say I think all piercings are gross. I don't think much of tattoos either unless they're very classy indeed.

Sort of agreed. Piercings mostly look ridiculous to me, though. Not gross.
The only exceptions are navel piercings in my opinion. They can look really good on reasonably fit people. I considered getting one for a while but ultimately decided against it because I just didn't want to bother.

Tattoos usually make me think: "Damn, that ruins her/his looks" but that's just my personal preference. It's a huge turn-off for me. I simply don't like them.
There are rare cases of really classy tattoos, though. I can appreciate those but they are far and between.
I'd never get one but hey: Live and let live.

Ear rings are fine. :)

My friend has the cover of Appetite for Destruction tattooed massive on his upper arm.

Boy does he regret that one
