2012 NFL Offseason

Orton signed with the Cowboys to be the backup, so he's off the table.

Bring back Shaun Hill. ;)

I just read about that (And was told on another board) so I edited my post. Still think Jason Campbell is available. Besides, it's all a mute point if Smith does come back, thereby screwing the Dolphins again. Man I feel kind of bad for that franchise.

Edit: Just found out Campbell is unavailable. Who is remaining on the QB free agency market now? I still don't want the niners to get Tebow. Smith better come back.

A few points:
1. I'm glad he's still in the AFC, should keep things interesting.
2. The Patriots-Colts rivalry will now become a semi-regular Patriots-Broncos rivalry. Manning will be playing the Patriots at Gillette this year as well.
3. There are rumours that the Broncos will be trading Tim Tebow and the Patriots are supposedly one of the interested parties.

McNabb is technically available ;)

God, I don't want him either. He was terrible in Minnesota and everytime I've seen him, he kind of comes across as lazy. I remember when I went to a Raider/Eagle game I don't think I ever saw him run, at least when it came from sideline to huddle.

Why the hell would Alex Smith leave San Francisco now that he's looking at being the clear #1 again? He was probably just looking at his options in the case of Manning signing with his team.

He led them to the NFC Championship game last season, and they aggressively pursued another QB. I read an article saying that he was pretty pissed. If Miami shows him the money, I'll bet he goes.

Having said that, I hope Alex Smith doesn't look at his one good season (bolstered by one hell of a defense) and seriously think he should start over Manning. The Niners knew what they were doing when they went after Manning, so they made their choice.

I could see Tebow in a Niners uniform though. He'd love San Francisco, I'm sure....

:p

Anyone else going to laugh their ass off if Jacksonville trades for Tebow?

The only good thing about that possibility is he'd put a ton of butts in the seats.

It's too bad that Al Davis is dead, since Tebow embodies Davis' favorite player trait -- "He can run really fast."

I'm happy to be able to root for the Broncos again, even if it would've been nice to see Peyton in a Titans jersey!

You know, don't the Pats and the Broncos have a bit of history? Or at least Tom Brady, doesn't he tend to have a harder time with them?

Until this most recent season, Brady had a 1 - 6 record against Denver. It's 3 - 6 now, after the spankings the Patriots gave Denver in December and then in the divisional round of the playoffs.

1. Who knows?
2. I plan to attend that game. I bet it will be a SNF or MNF game. 4:15 would work too football gods.
3. Keep him out of the Commonwealth. Other than Bernard Pollard, he's the last thing I want to see in Foxborough.

Well, I'm not actually serious. Although McNabb's problems were always more perception than actuality. The guy had one of the craziest off season workouts ever, so he definitely wasn't lazy. But in games, he always had this lackadaisical appearance that made him look like he never grasped the urgency of anything. The fact that he would take at least a quarter to warm up and actually hit his throws wouldn't help either.

Of course, I'm referring to the McNabb from several years ago. McNabb of the Vikings couldn't hit throws during all four quarters.

Some more greatness from Drew Litton regarding Peyton Manning:

There are these ridiculous Tebow to the Pats / reunion with McDaniels rumors going on. As the resident Pats Person here, I want none of this.

You've got a HOF QB, serviceable backup, and the potential future QB waiting in the wings. Don't blow draft picks on this guy. Tighten up the OL (Light might retire, Mankins had ACL surgery), get a running game other teams will respect (I love the Law Firm and he never fumbles, but still) to open up the play action, get a pass rusher that will put the opposing QB on his ass several times a game, and for shit's sake, a little help in the secondary wouldn't hurt either.

I could see Tebow to the Pats, and it's not only the aligning of my Tebow hatred and Patriots anti-fannism that says that. As you note, there's the reunion with McDaniels, and it's not as though Bellichek doesn't have a history of taking on players you wouldn't expect and molding them into his system. New England's one of the few places where the Tebow Circus wouldn't stand a chance of gaining traction, and as an H-Back goal line player he's actually pretty good.

Thanks, I thought it was something like that. So... 3-8 after next season?

Yes, I'm sure Belichick would love to win the SB with nothing but low rounders, cast aways, and undrafted misfits. Hell, they almost did this year.

But they don't need to blow their resources on some gimmicky, college style, option/running QB. Especially because it doesn't jibe with their system. The personnel aren't built around that.

Give me studs at OL, pass rusher, and the secondary and I'll be much happier.

If Al Davis were still alive, I'd say Oakland for Tebow. Now? Which NFL team out there has wide receivers who won't mind getting catchable balls thrown to them twice per game?
