Wow, someone in wardrobe or even the director has a flair for an attention to details.
Admittedly, I was being facetious, but what if zombies are basically God's way of raising the middle finger to mankind and telling them it's time for some house cleaning.

At the same time, he's tried to have hope for things like the winter putting a stop to the existing zombies. It doesn't really matter if winter kills the zombies if come spring new ones will just be created, especially in your own group. Who knows, at some point Hershel could die in his sleep, and with everybody in the house now he could pretty much take the whole place down. Or if Beth actually did go through with slitting her wrists completely, she could have taken out everyone in the house at the time.
If the CDC guy really told Rick this, he's a dick for not telling the others. Sure, he might be trying to protect them from hopelessness, but they're going to find out eventually, possibly with worse consequences.

A lethal airborne virus/bacteria/fungus would accomplish the same thing, no zombies...everyone just dies.
And if god wanted the worthy survive...well, the bigger jerks and predators would survive...not the meek.

Maybe the worthy are those who do survive the zombie hordes, regardless of past crimes and indiscretions.

If you're trying to find a religious angle to the show or even a Christian one, I'd look elsewhere. In an earlier episode this season rick prays to a giant statue of Jesus in a church and immediately following that event his son gets shot and almost dies.

Although if you wanted to push a Christian reading, it would still be a dark one: Rick's group needs to find the farm and ally themselves with Herschel, so God sends a minor miracle - the beauty of the deer - which leads to exactly the situation in which Rick needs Herschel's particular skills. God moves in mysterious ways - sometimes brutal ways - and Carl's pain leads to a "greater good."
Not saying I believe it, but you can make a case for a cruel but moral God here. He said He wouldn`t flood the world again, not that he wouldn`t unleash a cannibal virus.

I'd love it if the CDC guy had told Rick something else. Maybe he told him that only half his group were infected. Maybe it's only the men. Who knows? Why would Rick want to hang Randall as an option if he knew he needed to shoot him in the head once he reanimated? That's what puzzles me.

I'm with you guys. For such a promising start, BSG ended on such an odious note. (IMHO).

There's no evidence to support that. I can just as easily maintain he did it to put him out of his misery.
The fact is, if Rick did know that Shane was gonna come back, then it strains credibility that he'd suddenly forget just because he was a bit upset about having to kill Shane. It's the most important thing he could know at this point because it makes any death a threat. Rick may be emotional, but he's not an idiot, especially when it comes to keeping his family safe, and by extension keeping himself alive to protect them.
Why, is Ron Moore and David Eick taking over the Walking DeaD..LOL
