Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea
It's not like we're bashing Nicholas Cage or these Ghost Rider movies because that's just the current trend... or even an out-dated trend. Cage has been making a string of mediocre-to-awful movies for quite some time now, and I think most people are very aware of it and becoming tired.
Nic Cage used to be a respected actor, and now I think he's devolved in self-parody (as expressed in the latest Saturday Night Live sketch, and several YouTube videos). As Admiral_Young so eloquently said, I think Cage's best performance in recent years was in Kick-Ass, where he and Chloe Mortez's Hit-Girl were the best parts of that movie. It seemed like Cage was actually trying in that movie, and was attempting to bring a fresh element to his performance. Even his much-touted performance in the recent Bad Lieutenant remake was just more of the insane, crazy Cage shtick that's been in almost every Cage movie for the last five years or more.
The first Ghost Rider was very mediocre and pedestrian, and to be honest I don't see anything worthwhile or noteworthy to be found in this newest film. I'm not trying to write it off since I haven't seen it, but I'm not a big fan of the directors (the first Crank was enjoyable fluff, but everything else they've done feels like a retread of that same 'ole "high adrenaline, high octane" formula). I'm sure Spirit of Vengeance is stupid fun, but at the same time I'm sick and tired of Cage as an actor recently and I'm not even sure why there's a sequel in the first place. It's not like the first movie was anything extraordinary. I have to second Admiral_Young's comments of feeling like this sequel is utterly pointless and unnecessary.
