Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Release

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

There's nothing new about bashing Nicolas Cage or his movies. It's beeng going on for years.

Exactly. Nicholas Cage has been something of a self-parody for quite some time now. Plus, those Ghost Rider movies are just dreadful. The first one was unbearable, and I'm not even going to bother seeing the second one (based on the reviews). I'm not glutton for punishment.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Really, the Cage comment is all that gets some feedback from my review post?
Fascinating. So maybe it's not that new, that makes continual bashing "old" and out dated then.
The movie was fun, glad I went.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

There is a reason Cage and his films get bashed...they're bad. The last film I saw with Mr. Wooden where he was good and seemed to enjoy the role was "Kick-Ass". He was the perfect Big Daddy. As for comments regarding the film, I doubt it will get any serious positive reviews Craig. Everyone knows you're a big GR fan but this films just don't seem to resonate with people for whatever reason. I have stated I've no personal interest in them, mostly because of the bad reviews they've both got. They'll make money most likely but yeah. These just seem like a vehicle to help out Cage's financial situation right now. No offense. I know a few GR fans like yourself who hated the first film and are skipping this one.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I'm not saying GR has to resonate like an Iron Man, TDK or Spiderman. Just not go, "Oh, Nic Cage, must be crap." Then pile on without having seen the film which is what's going on(about the 'net).
Again, I don't pretend their more than they are but neither is Batman&Robin bad, Elektra or Catwoman bad. There are a few moments I'd remove myself and add others. It's a shame the film is going to just be ignored...like The Last Stand. ;)

Re: Cage, I rather enjoyed Season of the Witch with Ron Pearlman from last year. Not a bad B-movie period piece all things considered.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

The one thing that I have seen about this film...is that it does have fun moments in it. That's still not enough to get me to watch. I'd take a good overall film over "fun moments". I've seen comments on other boards from people who have compared GR to the Punisher films...i.e. "they're just not getting it right". I dunno. Maybe one day I'll watch these to see what they mean. It's a shame because as much as I'm not a fan, I do know a little of his mythos, and would like these films to serve as a portal to read the comcis and stuff. I think for me...a good comic book movie should do this. I dunno. Just nothing about this seems worth watching to me. Maybe I feel about this movie the way you feel about "The Amazing Spider-Man". :) I just don't see the point.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

IGN, and Comic Book Resources both liked it. Still not enough to get to see it, but I'd trust sites like that when it comes to this kind of movie over the mainstream critics.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

It's not like we're bashing Nicholas Cage or these Ghost Rider movies because that's just the current trend... or even an out-dated trend. Cage has been making a string of mediocre-to-awful movies for quite some time now, and I think most people are very aware of it and becoming tired.

Nic Cage used to be a respected actor, and now I think he's devolved in self-parody (as expressed in the latest Saturday Night Live sketch, and several YouTube videos). As Admiral_Young so eloquently said, I think Cage's best performance in recent years was in Kick-Ass, where he and Chloe Mortez's Hit-Girl were the best parts of that movie. It seemed like Cage was actually trying in that movie, and was attempting to bring a fresh element to his performance. Even his much-touted performance in the recent Bad Lieutenant remake was just more of the insane, crazy Cage shtick that's been in almost every Cage movie for the last five years or more.

The first Ghost Rider was very mediocre and pedestrian, and to be honest I don't see anything worthwhile or noteworthy to be found in this newest film. I'm not trying to write it off since I haven't seen it, but I'm not a big fan of the directors (the first Crank was enjoyable fluff, but everything else they've done feels like a retread of that same 'ole "high adrenaline, high octane" formula). I'm sure Spirit of Vengeance is stupid fun, but at the same time I'm sick and tired of Cage as an actor recently and I'm not even sure why there's a sequel in the first place. It's not like the first movie was anything extraordinary. I have to second Admiral_Young's comments of feeling like this sequel is utterly pointless and unnecessary.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

The box office estimates have GR 2 opening at #3 and making $22 million for the three-day weekend. The first film opened at #1 and made $45 million for its opening three-day weekend. The first film had a production budget estimated at $110 million, while Sony slashed the production budget for the second film to an estimated $57 million.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

@Jackson - I will say that knowing the directors before going in caused me to drastically lower my expectations for the film. I think the reason Kick-Ass stands out as one of his(Cage) more widely agreed upon better films in recent memory is cause it's also a film where he doesn't do his now standard "freak out" scene.

I saw it again this afternoon sans:
-crying baby
-9ry old kid asking dad questions every 2min(row behind me)
-drug along girlfriend who didn't' want to be there and texting(row in front of me)

Outside of the second "pissing" moment early in the third act the last half of the film is actually a fairly serviceable film. Note I don't pretend great but it is servicable.
The first half with some bad jokes, lack of solid transitions and needed exposition(imo) keep one from perhaps getting into the film. From the Rock Quarry fight scene in the second act onward till the end, minus the one scene) it's much more worth seeing. I really like the last fight/chase sequence in the film.

I'd heard the budget might be $75 but I've heard sub-$60m as well recently. If it is sub-$60 it still might stand a chance of only being considered a modest disappointment vs an outright bomb/flop.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

^I think on IMDB it's listed as $75M.

I saw it yesterday, it wasn't bad. Nice Cage is either amazing, really bad or just crazy. I really like the style of the directors. Also had trailers for Avengers, Spidey and Batman before it (Bane's voice seemed a lot clearer than the first time I saw the trailer).

But yeah, locations are good, plot is pretty week, visual style is great, action is very good, Idris Elba is cool, Nic Cage is crazy fun.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

It appears, based on BOM(which I trust over IMDB), that the sub-$60m budget was correct. It's reported as $57m for the budget.

Which means that it's $25.7m President's Day Weekend total looks better. However, a week out the expectation was $30-35m.
Depending on theater loss and WOM this film could still have a chance. At any rate it's out of being categorized as a bomb or flop, domestic or otherwise.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

So at the end of it's first week Ghost Rider held steady at slot #4 by and large. It's current domestic total stands at $29m with a worldwide total of $39.8m

So the real question is how much does it drop? The common thought is over 65% but 70% isn't out of the question. However, if Act of Valor is as bland a propoganda piece as some have said is it possible that during the weekend the 'action' dollar comes back to Ghost Rider? I'm going to hope for a sub 65% drop.

With any luck the film will be over $35m domestic minimum coming out of the weekend. It's small $57m budget is helping it make look a bit better.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

okay I am planing on seeing it tomarrow. do I have to sit through the credits?

I dunno, the 'action dollar' seems to be doing okay with "Safe House". I think we might see that one hold better than "Ghost Rider".

Nope there is nothing post credits.
Check back in and give your thoughts on it afterward.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I thought it was pretty good. way different than the last movie. it was like they totaly ignored it and it was good to see christopher lambert on the big screen agin as well.

now I have two main questions one was the kid sopposed to be the anti christ?
and what was that giant machine thing that the rider was riding during the shoot out with the mob guys?

The kid, Danny, was meant to be a new vessel, a stronger one due to his mom making a deal, for the devil to transfer into while walking the Earth.

The giant machine at the rock quarry was a type of excavation machine.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Wow. So I saw that GR2 slipped to sixth place and pulled in 8.8 million this weekend. I could foresee this dropping completely out of the top ten over the next two or three weeks. Possibly make less than "Green Lantern" as well...and I'm not bashing it, since I haven't seen it, that's just my take based on its current slide. Dropping two slots in its second week is not good. To be honest I actually thought it'd hold in the top five this weekend.
