Is Stargate dead... forever?

I see the new white and clear season boxes all of the time at WalMart and FYE here in the US.

This song will forever remind me of Stargate SG-U... One of the greater moments of the series. The welcome relief of fresh air, after hanging on so long with the danger of suffocation looming in the shadows. I would breathe so much easier if SG-U came back. ;)

I actually thought that was a very dumb song to play. "You get it? Cuz they were running out of air? They couldn't BREATHE? The audience will think it's hilarious!" I didn't think it was hilarious.

There's still a third SG-1 movie in the works as far as I know. I'm a little weary about that though, since Continuum sucked. lol.

There's a crazy guy on Youtube who tells people it's already been made, and they're halfway through making the Atlantis one and deciding whether to continue :cardie:

Ummm... yeah, there is the literal application of the lyrics to their situation, but, if you stop there then it's trite beyond compare. The thing is, is that it's symbolic of so much more. You just have to have the patience and insight to look beyond the simple association. :wtf:

Indeed. The writers were obviously trying to copy the pop musical montages common on cable fare such as Rescue Me (or perhaps even trying to immitate the season-ending music montages on The Wire), but their music selection was often like being punched in the face it was so literal.

And it's still true: Nothing in SF dies forever.

The popularity of SG1 is quite high, as is its longevity. These things are quite hard to measure but SG1 is still being syndicated. Even if you break down SG1 into two series, an eight year run is quite impressive. Given the existence of DVD sets and Netflix streaming, you won't get the obvious popularity of syndicated broadcast on a handful of stations that Star Trek got but there has been and apparently will continue to be a steady stream of new viewers of episodes here and there.

The series will not be continued in its present form however, not because of quality issues, but because the series is finished. From the initial days when the Earth (aka USA) was threatened by a superior power, the old War of the Worlds inversion, SG1 has finally led the Earth to the conquest of multiple galaxies and the evil gods themselves. You can't really top that, and only Doc Smith would be fool enough to try.

Further, they did this while not taking this nonsense too seriously. They occasionally sneaked in a serious drama but by and large they treated this preposterous stuff lightly, a sure sign of talent and taste.

DS9's story is finished, Voyager got home. The only Trek series that are finished are no more continuing than SG1. And it is far too soon to think that Star Trek is back with us. The new movie will have to live with its revamped Spock/Kirk friendship, and it seems likely that the reboot's failure to actually put one on screen will be glaringly obvious in the sequel.

A reboot of SG1 will await a time more propitious for the War of the Worlds inversion. The current craze for joystick murders by drone will have to pass. But sooner or later the consequences of this ruthlessness will come home and the start point of SG1 will once again be interesting.

A music montage can work. They didn't work very well on SGU, though - especially with inane song choices like "Breathe".

The montages, in of themselves, worked for me, though I must admit it was used one too many times. In addition, I would agree that the music selections were certainly grating at times.

As for Stargate's demise, I suppose it might return when those two hacks (Devlin & Emmerich) materialize their oft-mentioned plans for a Stargate sequel.

The music was hit and miss, but overall, probably worth losing. I did particularly like these two:
