John Byrne pitched another Gary Seven project to IDW, specifically a Doctor Who crossover with the third Doctor and UNIT. He mentioned it on his forum here back in 2008.

But you might be thinking of Assignment: Earth 2, which Byrne talks about here. I suspect he's busy with his other IDW work, he does mention that there are other projects that need to come first.

That would be an interesting crossover. I think Gary Seven and the 3rd Doctor would get along. Plus, we'd find out if the pen was mightier than the screwdriver. Also, I think Jo Grant would find Roberta Lincoln groovy.

The Doctor, who was banished by his people for getting involved with Earth history would be intrigued by the fact that Gary was sent here by aliens to specifically get involved.

Well, technically he was banished for violating the Time Lords' noninterference law and meddling in the universe in general, but he justified his reasons for doing so well enough that the Time Lords sent him to Earth specifically because it was in special need of his protection:

TIME LORD: We have accepted your plea that there is evil in the universe that must be fought, and that you still have a part to play in that battle.
DOCTOR: What? You mean that you're going to let me go free?
TIME LORD: Not entirely. We have noted your particular interest in the planet Earth. The frequency of your visits must have given you special knowledge of that world and it's problems.
DOCTOR: Yes, I suppose that's true. Earth seems more vulnerable than others, yes.
TIME LORD: For that reason you will be sent back to that planet.
DOCTOR: Oh, good.
TIME LORD: In exile.
DOCTOR: In exile?
TIME LORD: You will be sent to Earth in the twentieth century, and will remain there for as long as we deem proper, and for that period the secret of the Tardis will be taken from you.

So essentially the Doctor and Gary were both sent to Earth to get involved and shepherd it through troubled times. The difference is that the Doctor wasn't allowed to leave. I guess it was kind of like being sentenced to community service.

I still need to read the first Assignment: Earth comic sequel, but the Seven/3rd Doctor meet-up sounds interesting....considering that I've been catching up on 3rd Doctor episodes of late and wouldn't mind seeing him in a current adventure.
