DC's New 52: Reviews and Discussion (Spoilers welcolme and likely)

Batman: The Dark Knight #2 to #5: I caught up on this last night. I wanted to wrap things up and drop the title, but the White Rabbit bit with the drug that eliminates fear has me intrigued enough to want to soldier on for now. And Bane is next? Sounds good.

Justice League Dark #3 to #5: I like this title. I like the idea of a team that uses magic instead of super powers and I'm warming up to the characters. This one is a keeper for now.

The Team

And I love what they did with Zatanna. This version is one of the most stunning comic book women around.

Absolutely incredible. You think B&R was bad and yet you are still reading TDK.

Well, TDK was one I was planning on dropping but it's somehow managed to recapture my interest.

Pretty much it, the White Rabbit stuff has been interesting, though I think the stuff with Superman was a bit silly but it managed to get me re-interested. TDK is still on "the line" though but it's managing to hold on to the right side of things, B&R just lost me.

Superman: I really liked this issue and the title overall, but I do think it's getting exposition and explanation heavy in the narrator boxes and even in the dialogue of the characters.

Aquaman: Really loved this book and seeing that Mera isn't quite as... reserved or discrete as Aquaman is.

TDK: Actually not too bad, I think this book is shaping up a bit, liked the beginning use of Bane here and the "sub-plot" of sorts with Superman and Flash.

Flash: Good book and interesting to see where it is going, I also really like the art in this series.

Aquaman: Still love this book. Mera beats up some scumbag misogynists.

The Flash: Another great one. Fantastic art, and I'm actually really liking the new Captain Cold. I don't see the necessity of having it jump back and forth in time, though.

New Guardians: Finally, the team acting as a team. The potential of this one is still greater than the execution (it's been slow to build) but we finally get some action this time.

Teen Titans: Another good one. Static's cameo makes me wonder if they'll be adding him to the team, seeing as his book has been cancelled.

Just read Dark Knight #6... so, they've decided to magically erase the past decade of Bane stories showing the redemption of the character, and have reduced him to a cackling madman? Jeez.

^ Hahaha. That probably is why he is smirking.

Is this the first time Bane has been in the New 52?

If that's his redesign, I do not like it.

Seems Arkham Asylum/City inspired.

Batman and Robin is a pretty straight forward story involving Bruce and Damian's trust issuees. Batman: The Dark Knight has been utter garbage and deserves to be cancelled. Ugh. Bane reminds Batman (and everyone else) that he indeed broke Bruce's back.

I would be more impressed with bane's boasting if Batman hadn't been kicking his ass most of the times since Knightfall.

Remember the previous issue was delayed a couple of weeks guys, so issue six is slated for next week for the big show down against Darkseid; and yes it would seem the reversed all of Gail Simone's good work with Bane with Secret Six. Although I believe he was being turned a bit near the end IIRC. The Arkham Aslyum/City design is better than this one though IMO :)

I'm fully expecting either Aquaman or Batman to defeat Darkseid or at least derive a way to send him back to Apokolips so he can prepare for his inevitable return. The League will unite, vowing to protect the Earth from all kinds of threats. I think the solitics showed new villains that the League will be facing when it jumps forward with the next arc.

Aquaman #6: I think I've stated it before...but it's pretty clear where Geoff Johns attention is at right now. It is with Arthur and Mera, especially Mera who would appear to be his personal pet project right now so to speak. Which is great because she's never been written better, same with Arthur for that matter...well since Peter David, and Grant Morrison in JLA. Another thing that annoys me about the New 52 is the decision editorial to make the people afraid and unsure of the metahuman community. I mean plot wise I get why they did it...this is a new timeline and they're first emerging and they have to earn "our" trust. It just seems dumb and silly to me.

I can't remember where I came across the idea, but someone had suggested the heroes all be defeated and Darkseid give a speech to the effect that humbling the pretentious heroes was a step in his future goal. The League then forming to counter Darkseid's future ambitions. I'd like that better than some mashed up song duet by Superman and Batman to drive off Darkseid.
