ENT Forum Get To Know You Thread Pt 2

A bat? I wouldn't have guessed.

I think I might have seen flying foxes when I was in Australia. Didn't know they were vegetarians though.

And now I know where that Australian band got their name. Heh.

We have gazilions of flying foxes, there are dense inner city suburbs where they are hanging in trees and flying overhead at dusk. They are pretty cool. And huge.

My little friend is a large vegetarian bat called a flying fox.

That's a bat? He is indeed very very cute. :adore:

Is this what the little guy is going to grow into?

Boy, I've been here for over a year and this is the first time I've posted in the get-to-know-you thread. I should be ashamed of myself. :alienblush:

Hi and welcome to all newcomers!

Yep, he'll spread his lil wings once he can get out of his straight jacket swaddling, I imagine. I use the pics as stand-ins for alien pictures in some of my writing, but I have to hide the wings as I'm writing aliens with hands, opposable thumbs, etc. Going for kind of a doggy version of Caitians, standard humanoid size, too.

Very, very alien-looking, no (sorry for the big pic)?

I just have to say, I find your avatar strangely alluring. I can't stop looking at it. :o
 Me neither! I love Captain Archer with Klingon ridges. As Trip said, he looks intimidating.

Would you mind telling me which episode it's from? :)
It's from the season 4 Klingon two-parter, "Affliction/Divergence". It's actually a cropped version of a publicity photo from TrekCore.com.

Those are ridges! And here I was thinking they were shadows.

Thanks for answering my question. And thanks for wearing that intimidating avatar, mmm. ;)

How cute!:adore: He does look unusual, but in a very endearing way.

My pleasure! :p In addition to being intimidating, Captain Archer, Klingonized or not, is also dashingly handsome.

I like huggable aliens (and huggable starship Captains - rrowwwrrr at the avatar).

I, too, want a flying fox. Except I have to get past the part about screaming like Hoshi when bats fly around. We've had them in the house more than once. Mr. j takes care of the bat persuasion duties while I mainly cower catatonically and mumble incoherently, usually under a desk or chair or table.

^ Now that I'd like to see!

I took this pic in Sydney. There were many flying foxes/bats? just hanging around there in the middle of town, very surreal.

Why has my high school education failed me so badly? I never heard of a flying fox before and now I do not know how I can live without a flock of them in my backyard.
Great pictures!

I guess from the air the color would be an indication and up close all the bats I have ever seen are kinda pignosed and just not as cute.
I wonder if the natural rest position of the flying fox is hanging down or if they could be trained to sit on your shoulder like a parakeet.
"Arrrr -its a flying fox matey!"
