The Law Returns. This Time With His Helmet On! Judge Dredd!

^ He could have taken it off, it's just that we the audience wouldn't have seen it. They could do it a bit tongue-in-cheek, like an Austin Powers movie, with a series of things covering Dredd's face (as oppose to Austin's genitalia) or simply pan the camera away and film him from behind when he takes it off.

Yep - there have been scenes in the comics when he's taken his helmet off, and we've only seen other characters' reactions, or him in disguise with a temporarily false face, or - in at least a couple of memorable occasions - with a "Censored" bar blocking out our view of his face!

But we've also see him in the bath with his helmet on, and even in a sleep machine still wearing it!

Of course for multiple issues of 200AD Dredd didn't wear his helmet and his face was on show the whole time ;)

Well, with all the skin burnt off, so we still didn't see his actual features...

(and of course, there were ones where he's been undercover after a session in a face-change machine, and so they weren't his face...)

The helmet still seems wrong, it looks good, it's just the way it sits on the head, too high and perhaps too big. Pretty sure Dredd's probably a stickler for shaving given we've seen him be dismissive of Judges from other cities who have facial hair.

Damn can we have a trailer already!?

Film is still eight months out or something...I thought it might be a possibility that we would get our first teaser trailer at the Super Bowl but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Between the production issues, the reports of the director getting sacked from the editing suite and the complete lack of publicity thus far, it would have been highly unlikely for Lionsgate to fork out the $3 million for a Dredd spot during the Super Bowl.

Huh, maybe they should've given the Helmets chin-straps to keep them from being knocked off or flying off when on their vehicles.

Not bad. I'll be checking this out.
One day I'm actually going to read a full arc of Dredd that isn't a crossover.

Anderson looks great, and I'm starting to agree with those that Dredd's helmet does appear to be a bit oversized, but it's not really a big deal to me. His overall look looks great.

I think the problem is that there's a fundamental disconnect between the design of the helmet and the rest of the uniform. The large helmet needs the over-sized pauldrons / epaulets in order to offset it. The combat armor look itself is pretty great, but the helmet is horribly contradictory with the rest of the design. The large helmet says, "I am the in-your-face representation of the law." The rest of the costume says, "I'm a SWAT officer on tactical duty."

Just realized...you think they'll include Dredd's Cleaning-Lady Maria and Walter his Robo-Butler? If they want to keep this true to the satirical nature of Dredd instead of being some overly serious thing maybe those two would be good for the movie.

New images...

Man the helmet looks even bigger from this angle!

That's what you'll be saying when you see me in those Doctor Who undies.

That's going to haunt me now (no I wouldn't say that as well!)

Actually Dredd and the helmet look better in this pic.

I think you have a point there, in some respects the helmet is too much like the comic version compared to the rest of the uniform, but then again from most angles it looks right, and I guess I'd hate to see a helmet that matched the rest of the generic SWAT outfit.

Be interesting once we finally get to see a trailer because it might not be as noticible?

All good points but it's a bit of a catch 22. The design of the helmet is so iconic that to stray too far from the comic design just wouldn't *be* Dredd. On the other hand, the huge pauldrons would simply be impractical.

If that leaked script is accurate (and everything officially released up to this point says it was) then no, they won't. Almost the entire takes place in a single locked down bloc. Think Die Hard meets Training Day, with a touch of Assault on Precinct 13.

Between the production issues, the reports of the director getting sacked from the editing suite...[snip]

You may have missed it a few pages back, but that situation was said to have been misinterpreted.
