At what age do you think girls should

Re: At what age to you girls should

I think is main concern was the teasing he got about the doll not being antomically correct. His sister also hated the fact that a doll was named after and now insists that people called her Barbara not Barbie.

If Ruth had just given the dolls different names. However she continued with the practice of naming dolls after family member including her grandchildren.

Barbara actually stated

"Much of me is very proud that my folks invented the doll. I just wish I wasn't attached to it."

Re: At what age to you girls should

^ Although it seems like a sweet tribute to her children, it sounds like Ruth should have stopped the practice before going on to use her grandchildren's names, after hearing about the teasing of her own children.

This story reminds me of Matt Groening, who named the Simpsons characters (when they first appeared on the Tracey Ullman Show) after his parents and siblings. I believe that I once heard him say that- not realizing how the characters were going to become so popular- he regretting that "Homer" (his Dad's name) was to become synonymous with "idiot". Matt named his son Homer anyway, but the son goes by "Will".

My friends all stopped 'playing' and started getting into boys when they were around 11-12. I was still playing with dolls when I was 13.

What can I say... I liked being a kid. I did not want to be a teenager. I dreaded turning 13.

Actually now that I think of it, looking at my avatar, I really never stopped playing with dolls, did I....

^Nope, you didn't. ;) I love your little Spocky.

In answer to the original question, there's no set age.

I have two daughters, ages 11 and 13. Barbie-play has been tapering off for the past year or so, but they're both still very into their American Girl dolls, the younger moreso than the older one. Electronics (iPod and Nintendo DS), as well as other hobbies, seem to be slowly displacing the various dolls. Although the younger daughter got several American Girl items for Christmas, including a stack of craft foam and glue dots, along with a book showing how to make great pretend food for the AG dolls, which has been a big hit. :techman:

My wife hates clutter and might be tempted to shuffle the Barbies out of the house if she thinks they aren't being played with, but I don't think she'd do it without asking first. I'm more of a collector (she says "packrat" :p ), and am more inclined to understand sentimental attachments to objects to one's past, so I will encourage her to patience... ;)

If they're over 18 and like to play dolls, my penis is also a doll. So not until they get old.

this thread turned out to be much less interesting once I found out what the last word in the title was meant to be.

I would say I only stopped playing with my dolls and action figures when I started getting serious about writing the stories I was working on with them. I have not stopped writing stories.

That said...I do still sleep with a cat plushie.

Re: At what age to you girls should

Sorry, Miss Chicken, not a girl, so I hope you don't mind if I still respond; I think you should play with dolls (er, action figures) for as long as you want. Be 90 and own a teddy bear, and keep it with you when you sleep, I would have no problem with it. I'm tempted to do that myself sometimes. If it makes you happy, and it harms no one, feel free. :)

I'm 45 and still take my teddy to bed with me if I'm not feeling well or if I've had a particularly bad day. :)

I don't think there's any age when girls should stop playing with dolls, and to look at it another way, a lot of women (and men for that matter go back to collecting dolls, dressing them etc.
