THE HOBBIT (2012/2013): News, Rumors, Pics Till Release

I just can't believe we're still talking about Christopher Lee in a big an important film! WHAT a career. (of course, I said the same thing when Lucas cast him in Ep II how many years ago)

LOL, that stunt casting in Episode II was so great. "Hey, Christopher Lee was so good in Lord of the Rings. Let's get him in the same role in my next movie."

Speaking of stunt casting - but more literally - LOTR and Hobbit swordmaster Bob Anderson has died, aged 89.

How sad. He was a part of all my favorite sword fights, from The Princess Bride to Highlander to The Empire Strikes Back.

I just read about this when Peter Jackson posted it on Facebook. For those who have no access to it:
Peter Jackson:

It is a rare, even within the film industry, that you get to work with a legend which was why I was thrilled when Bob Anderson agreed to come on board The Lord of the Rings as our sword-master. In fact, it took a while for it to sink in that I was going to get to work with the same man who had helped create some of cinema's greatest fight sequences - from Star Wars to The Princess Bride. Bob was a brilliant swordsman and a gifted teacher; I will remember him as a wonderfully patient man, possessed of a terrific sense of humour. It was a privilege to have known him.

One look at the list of films on which Anderson worked should be more than enough to convince you of his talent and greatness.

Tolkien Birthday Toast

I must admit I've never heard of this tradition before but I'll be starting it this evening. Happy birthday, Tolkien!

That's neat. I just reposted that on Facebook and remarked that next year should be a long-expected party. :)

We've had an LEP in Kentucky a couple of times over the past few years. And nearly everyone who has attended has also observed the birthday toast. A nice, sweet moment in time to share a love of something in common. It's a good thing you're spreading the word on FB. :techman:

Nice ups, guys, thanks!

Any word of what Tauriel is going to be? Not a character in the books, sounds like they are going to expand upon the Wood Elves in Mirkwood quite a bit but this character makes an appearance at the end of the first film.

I think that depends on when the cut occurs. If it happens in Murkwood, she might appear briefly for some reason.

There might also be a Dol Guldur connection.

Yeah, good point - could even be both, one of Thranduil's elves sent down to aid the Council of the Wise in their exploration of the Necromancer, who then is later at Thranduil's Palace and the Battle of Five Armies.

That would fit nicely.

Guess we'll see.
