Big Bang Theory, yes or no?

Making lists, always a poor idea. Given how much tv they watch, you'd think they'd have caught that episode of Friends.

I would love to see Dick from 3rd rock get into a discussion with sheldon on physics which would be awesome I think. also loved the hole flag thing with amy as well.

Evetything that's wrong with The Big Bang Theory summed up in a single image:

Obviously, some peoples definition of "nerd/geek" are defined by what type of nerd/geek they are. They don't see that there are nerds/geeks out there that do have these "specialized" podcasts that may or may not be enjoyed by other similar nerd/geeks. BBT parodies ALL the nerd/geeks, not just one variety.

I also think that the writers come here because Amy's comment about Doctor Who is almost a direct quote from many Doctor Who threads on the DW board here at TrekBBS.

The "Damn! Take 43" bit was real enough. Most people would have edited the good bits together from multiple takes, but Sheldon is just the type to need one perfect complete take.

So I assume Sheldon said hello in a Sheldon-like manner and the audience laughed?
Being able to make people laugh just by saying "hello" would make Jim Parsons the greatest comedian in human history.
Not really since people often laugh at such things. Especially when delivered by a comic character with peculiar personality traits. Heck comedians have made careers out of just saying "hello".

It wasn't really a full-out laugh by the whole audience, it was more of a light chuckle by just a few people. Probably more out of anticipation than anything else.

It made me laugh. Mainly because of the uncharacteristic joy with which he expressed the greeting, coupled with the creepy smile.

^^^^
And he's in front of the whiteboard reading "Sheldon's Corner" and "Fun with Flags". That alone promises some good stuff ahead, IMO.

Yes, yes, we know what disdain young, modern audiences have for laugh tracks. "I don't want to be told when to laugh/Arrested Development was the best sitcom ever and it didn't have a laugh track".

Tell that to Alan Alda, Bill Cosby, Ted Danson, and Kelsey Grammer. None of those shows were ruined by canned laughter.

People have been known to laugh at decapitation and tentacle porn too. Just sayin. :shifty:
So people laugh at things they find funny????? I am SHOCKED!!!!! Shocked I tell you!!!!!

I've laughed at some movie decapitations. Never seen tentacle porn, but I'll assume someone finds it funny.

Most people only laugh because of the laugh machine anyways. If you take it away, only very few sitcoms would be truly funny.

Context is everything. The entire opening scene was, among other things, a riff on the old-fashioned educational filmstrips and videos created by entities like Disney. Sheldon is decidedly awkward in these kinds of situations, which is where the humor partly stems from.
