I dunno about the dead coming back (since nobody ever dies in Power Rangers except monsters), but I've always kind of figured that when depowered Rangers come back for reunions, they're temporarily able to tap into the same power source that the current Ranger team is using. It was established a few years back, I believe in Operation Overdrive and Jungle Fury, that all Ranger teams ultimately derive their powers from the "Universal Morphing Grid." So any old Ranger technology/magic might still be able to piggyback onto the UMG link that powers any currently active Ranger tech/magic.

Well in Gokaiger's "Legend war" the dead did come back for a brief time.

And in a bit of related news

There was an interview that said Toei would film a new legend war excluding the post Zyuranger teams for Saban to use when Gokaiger is adapted

If someone knows Japanese can you provide confirmation on what was translated?

This could be like Toei providing additional footage back in 1992. The "Zyu 2" footage that made up season 2 of Power Rangers.

Zyuranger had already ended but Saban requested some scenes be filmed by Toei so he could use it for MMPR season 2.

This could be like "Gokaiger 2" Only half of the post zyuranger teams will be excluded

Which was how Jason, Tommy, and Adam were able to return in their prior MMPR and Zeo incarnations for the reunion shows.

Of course, the writers could make up the rules as they go along.

I've been watching parts of the NickToons DinoThunder marathon, and I have to say that the bullet-time style commercials for Samuari make the show look *alot* better than it actually is. I want the show in the commercial.

    Sidebar:

Has there ever been a cast of Power Rangers you were not too fond of?

I am going to just throw this out here, but I was disappointed when MMPR had its first major cast change in the middle of its 2nd season way back in 1994.

Sure, Jason David Frank as Tommy was more than capable of taking on the lead role once Austin St. John as Jason was let go, but I really felt that Steve Cardenas as Rocky could not live up to his predecessor's Red Ranger role (He really felt just a dime a dozen.) and Karan Ashley's Aisha -- although her acting was better than her predecessor's -- just didn't have that certain something that drew her to the audience.

Johnny Yong Bosch as Adam was at least as popular as Walter Jones's Zack, which was quite a surprise because Zack was tough to beat and both characters are not at all alike.

Amy Jo Johnson as Kimberly was obviously has more a fan following than Catherine Sutherland's Kat (Although, she was a lot better on "Zeo.").

David Yost as Billy remained to continue to receive a paycheck, although he proved to be quite likable as a continuing supporting character.

The original MMPR 5 + Jason David Frank as the Green Ranger had that certain "something" that all other casts lacked. The later casts just didn't draw you in like the originals.

The current one (Samurai) is pretty dreadful. They seem like nice enough people, but they're severely lacking in talent, the least capable cast the franchise has ever had. Saban just wouldn't pay enough to get competent actors, so I'm told.

I wasn't too fond of the SPD cast either. The premise seemed interesting enough, and I liked it in theory that they were giving the team distinct personalities and character conflict, but I just didn't like them much, and I'm not sure how much of that was how the characters were written and how much was the actors.

She was no Thuy Trang, true, but I liked her.

He was by far the weakest actor of the original cast. I think I found it something of a relief when he finally moved on.

The original cast was an impressive group overall (Yost aside), particularly Johnson, Jones, and Trang. But there have been other impressive casts. The Time Force cast was strong, with Erin Cahill a particular standout. I also think Lightspeed Rescue, Dino Thunder, Mystic Force, and Jungle Fury had fairly good casts overall. And RPM had a fantastic cast, not a dud in the bunch. In terms of talent, they were the best cast ever, and in terms of charisma they were second only to the original MMPR team.

Ninja Storm, though they may have been sabotaged by the forced narly dialogue which was like fingernails on a chalkboard. The franchise's first year of production in New Zealand, and I think they really went overboard with the surfer/biker jargon.

Yeah, I had much the same reaction. That's one of the seasons I skipped most of. Not only didn't I like the Rangers, but the villains were painfully annoying as well.

But I blame that more on the writing than the cast. The actors weren't particularly impressive, no, but they were being dragged down by the lame material, not the other way around.

Ironic, considering David Yost and Amy Jo Johnson were the only 2 out of the original cast to have a theatrical background from their university days.

Nowhere, the first movie is not in continuity with the tv series. The rangers gain the ninja powers in the movie, they get those powers again (in a completely different way) at the start of the third season. You can watch it anywhere in the second half of the second season after the cast change.

Yeah, in a way, the first movie is kind of an alternate-universe version of the story of the third-season opener (not counting the Masked Rider crossover).

Whereas the second movie, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, is the canonical "origin story" for Power Rangers Turbo and should be watched between the end of Zeo and the start of Turbo (although there are some major lingering threads from Zeo that the movie and subsequent season completely ignore).
