I always liked the clean Trek design where everything is hidden behind smooth panels and still easy to access. It's like the difference between a Russian space station module and a Japanese space station module or a NASA module.
That was the same design philosophy that Matt Jefferies had for the original Enterprise's exerior. He had the idea that stuff would be concealed behind hatches in the hull (not only to protect them from space hazards but also to minimize the need for the crew to go outside the ship to repair and maintain them).I always liked the clean Trek design where everything is hidden behind smooth panels and still easy to access. Actually from a true human spaceflight safety standpoint, you actually want to hide/protect as much of the hardware as possible.

The new Star Trek movie continues filming in L.A. this week, their locations will include the Budweiser Brewery, Sony Studios, Dodger Stadium, Long Beach City Hall, MCAS Tustin and the Vasquez Rocks. (per @goforlocation)
Interesting.
Will engineering room be the same?
Aren't there long access tunnels underneath Dodger Stadium? With the right lighting, they could probably be made to look creepy...And Dodger Stadium? Maybe a huge celebration ceremony at the end, a la ENT's "Home"?
However, this won't stop the people who feel a desperate need to criticize everything about Abramstrek.
Remember that parts of the Giant Space Drill space jump and fight scene and the "Kirk running from monsters on Delta Vega" sequence from the last movie were shot on location in a parking lot adjacent to Dodger Stadium. I'd guess that the next movie also has a scene calling for sets, scenery or rigs too large to be easily fit into a soundstage. And Dodger Stadium? Maybe a huge celebration ceremony at the end, a la ENT's "Home"?

I think someone messed up...its exactly the same locations as last time. Vasquez Rocks are there and yet there is no Vulcan anymore... the same hangar again? and lets not get started on Budweiser!!

I agree. I think they just accidentally re listed the locations used last time around.
No, TPTB have decided that the new target audience doesn't care about continuity, so there will be scenes on Vulcan.
I like the preliminary designs they had for Engineering during pre-production for ST XI.
Ditto that! This is what Engineering should look like:

It's like a modern version of the TMP Engineering Deck, which I really liked. With any luck, we might get something closer to this in the new movie.

Trek's done it before: Look at the Enterprise bridge at the end of STIV. Then, as we pick up shortly afterwards in V, it's totally different. It changes again (slightly) for STVI. Engineering in V and VI are totally different, too...
