Best Two-Parter Edited into a Movie?

CaptainMatt

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
1. The Best of Both Worlds
2.Redemption
3.Chain of Command

What are your picks if any two-parter from TNG could be made into a theaterical tie-in movie to the series?

Best Of Both Worlds was good... definitely in the lead for me...

Unification was reasonable... guest appearance by Spock...

My favorites, in no particular order:

Encounter At Farpoint
Time's Arrow
Gambit
All Good Things

EDIT: I reread the first post again. When you ask which should be made into theatrical movies, do you mean remade with a bigger budget and a longer running time? Thanks for clarifying.

Basically, yes, if only to compete with other theaterical releases of the day (circa 1990s), but was still TNG at its heart if you get my meaning. Which one or ones would have worked with a little reworking but not a lot into something fans might want to see on the big screen. Nothing that would take away the essence of TNg though. Thanks!

"Gambit" flows better than the other listed here. On DS9, Bravo in the UK edited "In Purgatory's Shadow" and "By Inferno's Light" together, which was pretty awesome.

BOBW SHOULD have been TNG's first movie. Don't give S3/S4 a cliffhanger bridge but a theatrical film to satiate people for the 3 months between seasons.

I think "Unification" had the potential to be a good movie with mass appeal (especially considering it would have incorporated Spock)

Alright, I understand. To echo DS9forever, I think Gambit would have made for a good theatrical film, with some reworking of course. The stakes would need to be raised and something of real consequence would need to happen, but the basic premise for Gambit is great and IMO would have made for a better film than GEN, INS, or NEM.

Just replace Sela with Tomalok, give Andreas Katsulas the big screen again after "The Fugitive"!

Join Journey's End, with Star Trek: Insurrection.

Picard's collection half assed decisions in Insurrection would be seen as a direct result of the events of Journey's End, and the effect that mission had on him.

Trim out anything involving Wesley of course.

.

Coincidentally, these WERE all edited into "telemovies" back in 1995 here in the UK and re-released on VHS as the "TNG Movies".

There was also a DVD release of the TNG TV movies in the UK. On topic, I'm saying "Unification" as it might have done better at the box office to have the link with TOS.

The first time I saw tBoBW was on VHS, and it was the version that had been editted together to form one long epsisode. I never knew it was a two parter until I saw it on TV, Riker said, "Mister Worf, fire!", it cut to black and I thought, "Shit! The TV's busted!"

Then it said "To be continued" and I was like, "ahhh..."

My issue with BOBW is while there is no denying part II is still good...it's not necessarily as OMFG awesome in my opinion as part I...

Having said that, I'd vote Chain of Command because it has a stronger part II than part I but is still good overall...Personally with Chain of Command I'd have had Jellico listing his demands but added one more "And as for the Bajorans, you've had your fun there...but now's the time to let them go"

It would fit with continuity, make sense, and make a good hook for people to go over to DS9!

At least you had both parts in one viewing. I am one of the fans who had to wait 3 months for Part II to resolve itself. :techman:

The only episodes intended to be aired as movies were:

Encounter At Farpoint
All Good Things
Emissary
Way of the Warrior
What You Leave Behind
Caretaker
Dark Frontier
Flesh and Blood
Endgame
Broken Bow

All of which were aired as TV Movies when they were first shown...

Of those, Dark Frontier and Flesh and Blood are the only two which weren't either a Premier (Season/Series) or Series Finale...
