Once Upon a Time (ABC) - 1x02 till the bitter end

Good episode. I feel sorry for the man who Rumpelstiltskin was. Wanted to do good, now he's a villain.

No, I'm sure it was Ogre Wards.

There must have been some sort of natural disaster after-which there were all these thousands and thousands of orphan orgres that needed placement into good families across the friendly neighbouring kingdoms, which put such a terrible strain on all their fledging Royal Social Services Programs.

Really?

I think this is all some giant trick, to con some idiot into killing him and taking his cursed power, but Rumplstiltzskin wants to make sure that it goes to the right person, which is why he needs all these hoops and trials.

Yup, looks like we'll see Red's backstory as well. And she's looking hotter than ever:

Haha, I guess I picked the right time to ask about Red. Glad to see it's the same actress.
So they're going with human sized dwarves then? Not a problem for me, it just surprises me.
I've never heard mention of the ogre wards before.

Lets assume a touch of immortality came with his newfound power.

I think that was Ogre Wars, as in a war against the ogres.

I thought it was hoards?
EDIT: Does anyone remember what scene they said it in? I was going to check the CC o Hulu, but I don't what scene to check.

one minute 38 seconds into the episode, plowguy says "Orders of the duke, the Ogre Wars have taken their toll this season and more troops will turn the tide."

Listened to it twice a few seconds ago.

I don't know what Rumple is up to or about, but I am truly intrigued.

Last ep showed that he starts out as a weaver that wants to save his son. One of the first times we saw him he killed The Fairy Godmother for her wand. He seems obsessed with people's first born. hmmmm.....

I wonder why he keeps pressing Graham's stuff on to Emma? Also, he re hung Graham's coat back up in the offices.

I thought the blade read "Zoszo."

Great episode, loved the Rumplestiltskin backstory.

Perhaps, we the audience, are unduly influenced by seeing the Fairytale world scenes, and it would be different if we were only seeing the Storybrooke scenes that Emma sees, but, it's really, really stretching credulity for me, that Emma still is so set in her unbelief. Surely she's seen enough by now to know that Henry isn't imagining things or fantasizing, and that something really is going on?

Still loving the show, but, I wish the writers would let Emma come out of the dark, at least a little bit.

You mean a little bit like giving up her life, accepting deputization, and then running for sheriff based solely on the inkling of belief she has in Henry? A little bit like that?

She not only believes enough to stay and investigate further, but to be the town's sheriff.

I thought it was pretty obvious that he was just trying to get Emma to take the walky talkies.... so he could then listen in on her and the boy's plans.

Well presumably Emma comes from the same real world we do, and I know it would take a LOT more than a guy waking up from a coma, or a clock restarting, for me to suddenly believe that I was interacting with a real Snow White, Prince Charming, or Cinderella.

And considering all the quirky and interesting personalities in the town, I would think it wouldn't be very hard at ALL for an impressionable little boy to view them as fairy tale characters, or concoct this entire fantasy around them.

So, they made a point of mentioning that Rumple's wife had left him. Do you think she's somebody--and will she be showing up at some point?

I think we will see Rumple's wife eventually. Or maybe we already have? What if she's was the Evil Queen before see became the Evil Queen. It could explain why Regina and Gold dislike each other so much.

Maybe, but, I think she's more driven by her dislike/distrust of Regina and her fear for Regina being Henry's Guardian, then any belief in anything Supernatural

^That's pretty much been my reading too. At this point, I'm thinking we're not going to see Emma start to believe until the season finale, at the earliest.

Believe what you will, but there have in fact been several signs in the last few episodes that she's starting to believe "just a little bit."

I admit, they do allow her to give "Looks" that make it appear it's sinking in by the end of an episode, but, then in the next episode it feels like a reset button has been pushed and things she says makes it appear she's completely naive again

Question for the mods - is there any chance of changing the title of this thread to Once Upon a Time General Discussion or something? It looks weird to have it headlined with the title of the first episode when we're talking about all the episodes.

Alex

Where's the title of the first episode in the headline? I titled the thread and I don't even know what the title of the first episode is or even if the episodes have titles. Anyway, I don't care what it's titled, it could be Learn All About the Ogre Wards for all I care. :rommie:

Loved this ep, great stuff. It occurred to me that they essentially told the Star Wars PT story in one half of one episode - flawed guy who sells his soul to the dark side to save a loved one - better than Lucas managed with three big-budget movies at his disposal.
