Once Upon a Time (ABC) - 1x02 till the bitter end

I finally watched the last episode and I really enjoyed it. I liked Graham, and am sad to see him go, if he does. I wonder if any of this will make Emma start to believe or if she'll just decide he went completely nuts.
 
I did not see another thread and decided to bump this one.

I really enjoyed last night's episode. It did a great job of setting up the question - who is the real villian - Rumple or Regina?

I still feel that the curse means that no one gets to be happy, not even Regina. I think Graham's death was a real blow. (I know she killed him, but I think she truly misses him.)

Rumple's backstory was great. RC really shined in this ep.
 
I missed the first 30 minutes of last nights' episode, can anyone fill me in? I was a bit lost and didn't have time to watch it online later.
 
Rumple wanted Emma to run for Graham's job. She said she would and poof the building she and the Mayor are in goes up in flames. Emma saves the Mayor and the press is there to praise her. Emma then figures out that Rumple set the fire. At the debate with the Mirror/Reporter Glass Emma fesses that she thinks Rumple set the fire. She heads off to drink and meets up with Henry. Henry has been avoiding her because he did not want her to die like Graham. A stunned Emma finds out that she won the race because the only person the town folks hate more than the Mayor is Rumple/Gold. Gold is all please because Emma won and she owes him a favor. Emma then figures out that Gold masterminded the whole thing. He knew that Emma needed to publicly denounce him to win. Therefore, he made sure that she knew he set the fire.

The flashbacks told Rumple's origin story. He was a poor weaver with one son. A war against the ogres was raging. The prince/earl/baddie kept dropping the age of conscription and Rumple's son was soon to be 14. Rumple was desperate to save his son from the war. He decides to flee town but is stopped by the troops. Rumple is humliated in front of his son and forced to kiss the duke's boot. The duke also reveals that Rumple ran in battle and that Rumple was maimed in the last war (foot.) At this time Rumple encounters an old beggar. The beggar says that Rumple can save his boy by going to the duke's castle. The duke holds sway over a magician. The duke does so because he has a daggar with the magician's name on it. Rumple decides to set the duke's house ablaze and then steal the daggar. His plan is successful and he gets the blade. In the woods he encounters the old beggar and realizes that the beggar was the magician. The magician tricked him into stealing the blade. In a fit of rage Rumple stabs the magician. (That is precisely what the magician wanted.) When Rumple pulls out the blade his name is now imprinted on it. He assumes the magician's powers but it kills who he was.

His son is now afraid of him as Rumple kills the duke and his soldiers. He who only wanted to save his son has become a monster. All magic has a price.
 
Ah, I see.

At first I thought the Dark One was Clancy Brown til I found out later it was Brad Dourif.

Might have been cool if they had gotten Richard Moll to play him instead.
 
Didn’t recognize Dourif. Damn!

RC is such a good actor! He really imbues everything he does with a lot. Even that, what was it, scotch? commercial I watched online. I don’t drink, but I watched this long ass commercial because it was him. I wanted to see his delivery. Kinda surprising he wasn’t in any HP movie.
 
Another very strong episode. Thought Rumpelstiltskin's story was really well done (the only weak point being how easily he was able to walk in and grab the dagger, but oh well), and I loved the way Mr. Gold was able to manipulate everyone to get his way once again.

Although I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed that the Emma and Mr. Gold teamup didn't last longer. I thought that could have been really fun to watch.

This was my favorite episode so far. I really enjoyed Rumple's backstory and can't wait to see what kind of follow-up we get. They said magic has a price, but I didn't see much of one yet. He's a little meaner? Okay.:shrug:

He's the reason I want this show to succeed. I'd like to see him get a break.

So, they made a point of mentioning that Rumple's wife had left him. Do you think she's somebody--and will she be showing up at some point?
 
I really enjoyed the episode. Very interesting backstory for Rumplestiltskin. I think the cost for him was supposed to be the reaction he got from his son in the end. I thought the end of the mundane world story was was pretty good too. Once again they're hinting that Gold might end up being a bigger baddie than Regina, at least for me.

I'm really curious to see her back story, if we get an episode for her. I'm wondering if they'll keep the actress from the mundane world, or if they'll go for the more traditional young version of the character.
 
great episode, one of the best of the series so far. Tragic and complex villains are more interesting to me than one-dimensionally evil ones.
 
I've never heard mention of the ogre wards before.

Lets assume a touch of immortality came with his newfound power.
