"Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film!

Re: "Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film

YES! I think we'd all like to see that!

Grate job Capt. Atkin!
Any chance you could post some test video clip, old and new to compaire. 15 sec. of each on youtube or other places of your choice.

Hopefully soon. Stan Woo gave me all of his original super 8mm footage, which I now have in Toronto. A few clips are with the editor right now for the trailer. Just waiting on some Klingon shots, which are being filmed this weekend in San Francisco.

There is still a ton of work to do on the film, and the goal is still to have it done by January 2013. As most of us are working on other film projects while finishing this project, we are taking it all one day at a time.

True John. We certainly have our work cut out for us. What's nice though is we now have the benefit of modern digital technology and the internet.

A little more about the 'degraded' trailer I posted in 2009....One has to remember at that time Swoo hadn't yet found the film masters so I essentially had to use some of what was thought to still exist. I also thought it added a little drama by degrading it a bit which then underlined the fact we hadn't abandoned the project...it sort of abandoned us...until now.

The other thing to note is I do have other film that differs from what Stan has including additional live action shots of George I shot between takes. So we'll have to see how this version turns out rather than add more than we need to the pot.

Meanwhile, just for the fun of it I tossed together a little poster comp since I imagine we'll be needing something soon...

As Yorktown: A Time to Heal is still in production, we can't create an IMDb page for the film at this time. However, I was able to create a page for their first Star Trek fan film: Yorktown: In Temporary Command.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2111493/

The film was made during their senior year in high school, and was shot on Super 8 film. Stan Woo and Da Han won the Sweepstakes Award for best science fiction film at the 1984 Hollywood Teenage Film & Video Festival, with Woo accepting the award on their behalf from actor Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters).

Yorktown: A Time to Heal was filmed 5 years later. Originally, the film was planned as a follow-up to their first film (which is why the title Yorktown II sometimes appears online). Once George Takei joined the project, the continuity of the high school film was abandoned.

Although the film was finished, there are no plans to put "In Temporary Command" online at this time, as the filmmakers don't want the two films to be confused with each other. However, there is a chance that the high school film may be posted for fun once "A Time to Heal" is finished.

The new (CGI) Klingon K-Fighter model is nearly done. Roland is going over the final design with Andrew Probert. Should have some new FX posted very soon. Stay tuned!

Ships that will appear in the film are:

USS Yorktown NCC-1704 (TOS style)
USS Yorktown NCC-1704 (refit model)
Klingon K-Fighter
Klingon Battle Cruiser (TMP style)
S.H.A.R.K. vessel (the "Nagear" - a new design by Andrew Probert, similar to the Vulcan shuttle design from TMP).

Wow, thanks for that. Is the original film, Yorktown: In Temporary Command available for viewing anywhere?

It isn't available yet. The film was finished and screened for an audience back in 1984. The film isn't the same quality of "A Time To Heal", as it was filmed during their senior year of high school. It is a student film.

The film still needs to be transferred from Super-8 to digital so it can be put online. Chances are, it will be posted after "A Time To Heal" is made available online, although that could change. Personally, I think it would be fun to see the high school film first!

I've posted a few of those even with no follow-up films... http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/138.html

Wairt a sec...you're shooting here? I live in SF.

Yep! Just the Klingon scene. I'll have more info in a day or two about the shoot :techman:

The guys who are filming in SF filmed a made a short video with Brian playing Hamlet (in the original Klingon) about three years ago. You can see it here at Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiRMGYQfXrs

Ah, I was hoping to know where/when they were shooting as I'd have volunteered to help.

Re: "Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film

Just read the thread, joined the Facebook page, watched the trailer and original footage. All I can say is WOW! WHat a fantastic project and a true piece of history. I love it and can't wait to see it when you are done.

Can you say a bit more about the transfer from S8? I am fascinated.

Oh yeah, and James Shigeta! DAMN!!!!!

Re: "Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film

There was a bit of a delay in filming the Klingon Pilot scene, but I'm glad to report that they finished filming the scene two weeks ago. Going over the rushes now, and it looks great! Both actors did a great job, and the TMP style Klingon makeup looks wonderful.

I'm having some audio issues with a scene we shot a few months ago of the Klingon Captain. Some buzzing sounds in the background. If anyone out there is good with audio and would like to help us clean up the sound, send me a PM!
