The Dark Knight Rises Anticipation Station

Bleeding Cool ran a story a few days ago claiming they had a source or something that said that Bane indeed does physically break Batman's back. We saw a shot of Bruce with a cane so we know he is injured. It's possible he has his back broken or whatever and gets tossed in a prison where he has to "rise" to the occasion to recuperate. He has to find the will power to return to face Bane again. I think that old guy in the trailer might be like a mentor he has. I also think we could see Juno Temple's character in that prision. I believe she's supposed to be playing a "street urchin". I'm still convinced that we won't see Bruce be killed off. Crippled yes but not killed. The Eight Year gap is something incredibly interesting that brings a whole lot of possibilities into play.

Only real "plot hole" here is that if Bane truly takes total control of Gotham with his army... why doesn't the outside world intervene? The goverment? The National Guard? The military? The UN sending a note to Bane about how angry and mad everyone is about his tactics?

It's possible Gotham is declared a No Man's Land. NML is a big influence for this movie and we know Bane has somekind of machine. Remember too it's not just Bane Gotham has to deal with...as mentioned if the rumours about Miranda Tate are true with regards as to who she is.

hmmm... if that's the case it's a blow to Nolan's efforts at a more "comic book realism" take on Batman. I've always considered NML to be an absurd story believability-wise, and there's no way a major city's going to be realistically taken over by some guy's private army without the U.S. government interfering.

I dunno, I thought the Bush administration's response to Hurricane Katrina showed that No Man's Land was quite prescient. :)

Yup, as you say, the Federal Government can't do anything, until the State Governor asks for assistance

^ Tanks aren't mobile? What is it then, a Batstatic?
Let's try this.
A tank is such an extreme type of "mobile" that no one would group a car, even a boosted up hyper one like the Batmobile, in with a tank.
Much like sharks are fish but when one says Great White or Hammerhead the question isn't what type of fish is that but hey those are sharks.
It's special enough and different enough to have it's own sub group if it's even considered in the same class.

But you were the one who called it a tank, IIRC. And the tumbler certainly doesn't move like a tank. It moves way faster for one thing. It's got its own category but I think the term 'mobile' applies to it.

I suppose since both are misguided and wrong about how to handle things. Not to mention the real bad guys.

Wait, did you just call the Occupy movement "bad guys"?

:wtf:
Yep, I'm part of their 99% and I see nothing redeeming about them.
They are all over the place, not concise in what it is they think they are trying to accomplish.
They are a mob out of control.

So not have clear goals makes them villainous?

:guffaw:

Are you high or just delusional?

^^^^
I know the board is saturated with liberals but even the main media outlets that once gave them praise/support now realizes the OWS movement is a bunch of rudderless losers more interested in chaos and anarchy than real positive change. If not then they need to get really organized and get the idiots off the front page.

Let's not belabor the point by getting into semantics about the Tumbler. I just don't see it as a Batmobile along traditional, aka from a street car/racecar, model. It's function was to be a chasm jumper to lay temporary bridges for the military.

Yep this is true. Alfred is a different case. He serves the Dick Grayson/humour role with the sarcastic naming of all the equipment. I might have to a re-watch of both films soon but I'm pretty sure Bruce himself has't called any of his tech or equipment "Bat" this or that.

This isn't TNZ, nor is this a thread about Occupy. Let's save this line of discussion for a more appropriate venue.

Comparing Bane to the Occupy protesters is fine. Going off on tangents about Occupy protesters being "rudderless losers" has absolutely nothing to do with The Dark Knight Rises and has no place in this thread. Thanks.

The introduction of the subject was somewhat inevitable, given that Nolan was supposed to be filming some of the OWS protests for inclusion in TDKR, I suppose.

There's no indication, as far as I know, of Bane having any connection to the '99%'/Occupy movement, or, as I've already said, any connection to Selina/Catwoman.

It is speculation at best and someone's observation. Nothing more, and as captaindemotion indicated there were rumours that the film would be touching on the occupy movement.

The riot scene was likely written way before the Occupy movement

Now I don't know if filming near Wall Street was intentional as the protests were just a few blocks away.

Most movies have a disclaimer at the end

"The events depicted in this movie are fictitious. Any similarity to any person living or dead is merely coincidental."

Judging from the trailer, it appears as if Nolan is at least touching on the Occupy movement using Selina Kyle/Catwoman, but there's no indication that Bane himself has any connection to the '99%'/Occupy sentiments that she espouses to Bruce in the trailer.
