I'm Becoming a U.S. Citizen!

Won't he be able to vote for Ron Paul in the primary election? Or am I missing something? (Other posters' sarcastic political views aside, that is.)

The California Republican Primary isn't until June 5. The race will have already been decided by that point, and Ron Paul won't be in the running.

Before the next year election...I will become an American citizen.

Funnily enough, I'm doing my level best to renounce my US citizenship, and wish it could be done sooner than the current timeline.

They should let you just stick your photo in my passport and be done with it! :D

Once I get the restrictions (not yet married for two years, but will be in 50 days or so) lifted from my Green Card, I will be able to begin the process of becoming a US citizen.

I don't know how long the process takes (or how much it costs) but I might be able to vote in 2016.

How long have you lived in the US? Just doing a quick search, it looks like you need to be married and living here with a green card for at least 3 years (or 5 years if you're unmarried).

Before the next year election...I will become an American citizen. Which means I can vote! Woohoo! I'm gonna vote for Ron Paul for president in 2012.

Congratulations. Now you too can be blamed for all the world's problems.

Congrats, Paradon!

I'm hoping the Ron Paul comment was meant to be a joke.

Unlikely. He's had a link to Paul's website as part of his sig for ages.

Well, I hope he realizes that his vote will be wasted.

Everyone's vote is "wasted." No one vote is going to decide an election! So it's absurd to worry about anything other than voting for whomever you honestly want as President.

Just don't vote for Newt Gingrich, kay? :D

Betcha Dr. Ron gets more than a few write-in votes from the die-hard set. ;)

Not terribly thrilled about the whole Ron Paul thing...

BUT...

Congratulations :).

Don't listen to people who are turning this thread into a critique of your politics and voting decision. Vote how you like! Most of us didn't have to work for our citizenship-- you should be very proud!!

No wonder I never vote.

This is not something of which to be proud.

I have no feeling about it one way or another. I've only been legally able to vote once, and I was completely underwhelmed by the candidates, so I opted out.

I agree with RoJoHen. Though I personally vote every time, I'm not in the "vote or die" camp for other people; in America, staying home is as much a statement as going to the polls (unless you're just being lazy... but that's your loss).

Yeah. If there had been a candidate I wanted to win, I would have voted for him. If there had been a candidate I really didn't want to win, I would have voted against him. This last election, I didn't really care who won. If I'm going to vote, I want my vote to have a purpose. Just voting for the sake of voting actually seems pretty irresponsible to me.

Thanks again everyone!

I will vote for sure! You have my word on that one. [chuckle]

RoJoHen, As of 12/4 I have been in the US for two years, but I only got the Green Card on 4/20/10, so I would need to wait (if you're right) until 4/20/13 before I can apply to become a citizen. That's not too far off.
