All my Holodeck characters are now engaged with the DOFF system. Let's see how long before they are all VA/LG...

The result of this fast leveling pace I experienced first hand.
Got randomly challenged by what I can only imagine to bel a noob VA.
Probably just been promoted, got his new ship and felt incredibly powerful.
He was flying a Prometheus Class and should have shredded me, cause escorts are so powerful with the new skill system.
I outdamaged him 3:1 in my Souvereign and beat him by:
-letting myself damage so much I could summon fleet support and watch
-using no abilities at all, just basic phasers and shield distribution
-parking my ship above the spacestation in "solar wind" and let autofire do the job...

The fast leveling pace produces low quality players who have no idea what they are doing.

Kudos: he kept coming at me and finished the match. :bolian:

Sadly he could just as easily have been a VA for a year. Due to fighting mostly just NPCs, some players never really learn how to best use their skills or experiment with their builds. At VA levels, if you don't have any prior experience in PvP (or great space combat experience) you'll likely find yourself being casually blown up. For some the learning curve is far too steep and just never bother with PvP again.

Having worked with and played on computers for the last 33 years, I agree with you. Computer opponents are extremely predictable and easily beat.

Annoyingly, game wouldn't launch this morning so i could set my DOFFs off to work for the day while I'm out...

I won't waste money on the gift package... it will be cheaper o get it from the real c-store release eventually.

It doesn't sound like they will be putting the Jem'Hadar ship in the C-Store at all.

You bet they will, but not before people have spent enough c-points on gift boxes that have a very rare chance to contain the ship.
Each box 100 points

Meh, I only used the 400 points I got for free and managed to get a photonic tribble and enough holiday stuff to get the scraf after running the race. So not too bad.

So, what's the trick to doing better than green holiday box in the race thing? I don't seem to be figuring it out, and ran it a few times now. There's no clock, so is it random, or is there a trick?

I believe it's just random. I ran it 4 times (fell off the course once) and I got 2 green, and 1 blue box. The best item was a purple MK IX gun. As long as you win, you get a random box, but green are the most common.

I think after I do the event for a couple of days, if I don't get any blue boxes, or decent items in blue boxes, then I'll buy a couple from the c-store to see what I can get.

The exchange was crazy last night with people buying and selling hortas, gekli's, and exocomps. I picked up 2 hortas for only 5 EC each.

Oh so that's why there were Horta's on the exchange. I managed to snag one last night.

I believe you can buy a lot of cheap junk people get from multiple gift boxes they don't need in the next week.
They really waste a lot of money on this.
Cryptic is making a fortune right now.

no, they won't - a BIG part of PWEs success with their other F2P games (including the Western versions) is the cheap cost (for one) of the 'grab bag' with an item they KNOW players want with a miniscule chance of getting it awarded via said 'grab bag'; and further know a small obsessive portion of said playerbase will spend QA LOT to finally get it.

Thus, those grab bag items will NEVER appear directly for sale on the MT store; they'll just rotate in various 'grab bag' offeres that appear near some majoor holiday (or event) once per profit report quarter.

And it obviously works (which is the same reason you see the 'Hi I'm a Nigerian Prince...." e-mail scams as the reason they bstill exist is there are indeed enough clueless people who respond thinking it's a real offer."

The 'Grab Bag' ISN'T a scam per se; but I guess PWE (and othger companies) have found there are enough obbsessive/compulsives out there willing to spend outrageous sums for certain items.
