and bring on the phasers firing from the photon torpedo tube.

Nuh uh. That's one thing that they damn well better change. Isn't it a good thing to fix obvious errors?
Not if the point is to preserve the original show, warts and all, no.

I'm especially hopefull with the comments that we'll barely notice any new FX shots that discussions of TNG HD will actually be centered around the HD, which is the whole point of the projct, and not the new FX -- annoyingly not the case with HD-remastered TOS discussions, almost all of which centered around the new FX (which weren't even really part of the remaster).

So you want them to make mistakes on purpose?
"They" wouldn't be making any mistakes. The mistake was made twenty years ago and the shot is already a part of the show.

There are lots of things they could change, but it doesn't sound like they're going to. If you're looking for new content, you may be disappointed with TNG in HD.

EDIT: I'm not trying to sound harsh. You'd like them to change an obvious embarrassing error that someone should have noticed, and that's a fair view in light of the fact that they have no choice but to change some FX anyway. My view is that any new FX should simply recreate the look of the original FX but in HD and that the entire point of the project is a slick new HD look, not "new FX." Sounds like that's Drexler's view as well.

That's not to say that by the time they get around to doing season five they may not rethink that strict policy and say, "We really need to change that shot in 'Darmok.'" We'll see.

I don't need to see a lot of new content. I was very happy when I heard they were going to be using the original filmed elements but the fact remains they will still need to recreate all the F/X which were created on video which includes the phasers coming from the photon torpedo tube. What you are arguing for is for them to recreate this error.

I think the "pulling you out of the show" comment was regarding the various too-modern CGI shots of the ship flying in space and such. It did look out of place at times when it didn't adhere to the original shot.

I disagree with Drexler's appraisal of TOS-R, if anything they could have done much more, not less. Still, I do think he has integrity and will make the STNG-R project as good as it can be for what they are after.

RAMA

I agree RAMA, and I don't think he was dissing TOS-R at all, it's a shame it is misconstrued that way. He is close with all the guys he is working with again on TNG-R.

How open to the Challenger/New Orleans classes would everyone be? the other Galaxy kitbash ships scaled down and made a little more unique?

Some of the ship flyby shots looked fantastic and fit the look of the show. On the other hand, IMO, the shots the FX team seemed the most enthusiastic to praise were the ones I liked the least. The FX in "Galileo Seven," in particular the shuttlebay launch scene, looked horrible, much worse even than the original shot, like something out of a video game.

I think it referred to the added shots and changed shots.

For instance, adding the walking across the bridge to the marriage ceremony scene, which was never in the original. Or changing the size and apparent distance of the Constellation on the viewscreen before Kirk claims 'she was attacked' (which completely pulled me out of the original and made me want to tell Kirk... "duh!" Whereas the original scene made me think much more of the character's ability to discern a danger to his ship. It changed the whole feel of the scene and the character for me personally).

Adding and changing these type of things seem to me, to fall under the category of directorial decisions, and not "remastering."

I would totally be in favor of just letting them go crazy and add CGI wrecks all over the place during the BOBW II (and Unification II) graveyard scenes. :techman:

This is all sounding like a "Not Buy" for me. I dont want to see 80-90's CGI but just upscaled. I want new, crisp, sharp and more resolution fx. I would like mistakes fixed like phasers coming from Photon tubes.
This sounds like a waste of an effort...
