^ I can see that they worked with CGI on the space shot. The cityscape, however, looks just like a new HD scan of the original matte painting(s). With some added CGI lightning etc., of course.

The lightning was in the original shot. I don't think that's CGI.

The effects we've seen so far are quite different to the ones seen before. I think it's obvious this is what they are doing in most cases.

Can anyone tell if the matte painting of the Klingon city-scape has been altered with CGI? It looks pretty much the same to me, at least based upon the still comparison.

My understanding is that it was not altered just the higher resolution, as is the point, made the details of it come out more and the sharper picture, again as is the point, made the colors more vibrant.

I believe now that the set won't be released in the UK as I can't find the set on any UK stores. Looks like I can choose either importing it from the US or from Germany.

Probably US, the German version would be German most likely.

I wouldn't be too hasty with that - Play.com are listing it, at £7.99, so maybe it'll show up on Amazon soon (I hope so, as I dislike Play, and would really prefer not to have to buy it from them...).

I don't recall one single German DVD release of a Star Trek show that didn't have English audio and subtitles. So I don't see the problem.

I've never had any problems from Play so I've pre-ordered from them. Thanks. £8 is a snip. :bolian:

Thanks for the tip all, my usual point of call is Amazon.co.uk. I don't recall having any trouble with Play.com in the past so Play.com it is.

I was under the impression (possibly wrongfully) that at least half of the seasons would be out in 2012. They must have the majority of season 1 completed. From a business standpoint, staggering the releases over the span of several years is not wise. If they stick to that plan, we'll have DS9 and Voyager by 2020 or further..

The press release was only willing to commit to the sampler & season 1 in 2012. If Paramount expected more in 2012, I'd have expected them to say so.

Honestly, I imagine that they've probably been working on this for a while and are likely already done with Season One, and that the speed at which future seasons will be released will depend upon how the sampler and Season One sell.

Personally, I'm not holding my breath for DS9 and Voyager. To my mind the main motivation for the remastering is the income it'll generate long-term in vastly extending the series' life in syndication. I just don't see that DS9 and Voyager have enough pull in the syndication market to make remastering them a financially viable proposition. Though I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

That would surprise me, especially given the late announcement that they were unable to locate (so far) 13 seconds from "Sins of the Father." They're probably just putting the finishing touches on the sampler disc at this point.

Who said they will even remaster DS9/VOY? If TNG doesn't sell enough then they won't waste money on DS9/VOY. It's also quite possible that based on DVD/syndication sales they already don't expect to make enough money on DS9/VOY so they would have to be wowed by the TNG sales numbers to justify starting DS9/VOY.

If they were done with Season One then why sell a sampler disc? The sampler is there to realize some initial revenue while they're working on Season One. Honestly, if the sampler was already done, then the sampler would be out now to realize Christmas shopping revenue. The fact that the sampler isn't coming out until the end of January tells you everything you need to know about the current progress of the project.

Yeah, I suppose you guys are right. It just seemed to me like this project was kind of inevitable after the success of TOS-R and if TPTB wanted Star Trek to remain a viable property in the HD era, so I thought they would have started working on it sooner, but yeah, releasing the sampler disc after Christmas would probably be kind of pointless if they were already that far along.
