My Little Pony web invasion?

I've seen it on other boards I read, this one had the larger (but later) eruption.
My kids watch the show, they love it. I posted once elsewhere that the show is at best mediocre, but if you're watching with a 2 year old girl it's magical brilliance.

Some people try to talk about the Padres, but we nip that in the bud before the whole thread falls asleep from boredom.

I haven't been bothered by the MLP talk in the least, but then I've not really posted much in Misc lately. If people want to like the show, more power to them, even though the avatars I've seen lead me to believe that the Pony's look like they have an evil plan to take over the world a la Pinky and the Brain and the cutesyness is just for show. Maybe that's why people are a bit creeped out by them? ;)

Anyway, I've been enjoying following this thread lately, as despite some of the more extreme comments, it's provided the board with some good discussion that's been lacking the last few months. I thank everyone for that. :)

As for the Baseball Talk, we need more fans of various sports teams to wander into the sports forum. I'm not talking just baseball, but Football and Hockey (And if you're a fan of college basketball or just want to rant about the greedy players and owners of the NBA, that's fine too). Most of the chatter is based out of Toronto (Blue Jays and Maple Leafs), New York (Yankees/Mets), and Boston (Red Sox, Patriots). I would love more activity there.

Nobody gives a fuck about what your husband thinks is "wrong with people" because they like a TV show.

Fair enough. I too, don't give a fuck about what a(n) Internet stranger thinks of what I said. ;)

I don't like the ponies but judging people as creepy and "wrong" because of shit like this is just making you look incredibly bad. You're just feeding the flames here which is quite sad. So stop speculating about how watching a pony show is clear evidence of some serious psychological issues. That is a narrow-minded attitude and is certainly a good way to make Trek fans look intolerant.'j

Don't care. Too old to be indulge in P.C. group-think. Don't like it? Tough.

That is not the essence of the problem. Re-read the topic. If MLP fans didn't go on in an obsessive fashion in inappropriate places, nobody would have a reason to criticise, period. What is it you find so confusing about that?

It's called denial.

I had better be

That's not even a response to what Emilia said. You might as well have just posted "La la la I can't hear you." For YEARS Trek fans have been hounded as weirdos, social freaks, sexless etc. and now you're doing the VERY SAME THING to another group of people who are interested in a harmless television show.

I believe there is something called an "insanely massive overreaction", this thread has some amazing examples of it.

You mightr be onto something here. ;)

And no matter how many times people point this out it seems to be overlooked.

Oh, how I love it when asking for tolerance and open-mindedness is called "P.C. group-think".

Yup, just a meaningless comeback that addresses nothing. Even so plenty of people appreciate your contribution to the thread if she doesn't.

Though the avatars I've seen lead me to believe that the Pony's look like they have an evil plan to talk over the world a la Pinky and the Brain and the cutesyness is just for show.

 well they do look shifty at times but they're either too lazy or too disorganised to do much.

Looks like I missed another humdinger of a thread. My opinion is unchanged since the name-change incident, and rehashing it apparently won't change anybody's mind so I won't bother.

To answer the OP's question: I've seen it on other forums, but they were already pretty geeky boards so it's not terribly surprising. The official Magic: The Gathering forums and Tohokingdom (Godzilla, etc), both had/have decent sized Brony groups. I haven't been on the Magic forum very much of late since they introduced a change to the game that killed my interest in the game absolutely dead. But in both of those places, there were people that didn't care for whole thing, but were never as unpleasant about it as some of the folks here have been.

I also joined Reddit not long ago for their MLP sub. I had been lurking for a few months, but it was the ponies that got me to join.

I also post over at BronyKingdom sometimes.

And the line "one is a genius, the other is insane" is so fitting, to boot. (Though, actually, both are insane.)

I have to admit, I chuckled at this quote by John de Lancie in an interview about voicing Discord and the MLP phenomenon in general:

"Roddenberry warned me that I had no idea what I was getting into with Star Trek. Someone should have warned me about My Little Pony! Egads!"

It seems also that Lauren Faust happened to be watching a lot of TNG while developing Discord's character, and wanted very much to make him similar to Q. She's a Trekkie herself.
