They haven't had much staying power on that board, and I'm not overly concerned with making them happen over there anyway. So I had the same problem as you. :)

We can't help it, it just calls to us. ;)

    Point.

I've never seen it, but am intrigued by it's obvious power. It appears to be harmless and fun and something to be enjoyed in a jolly manner.

Apologies if it's for the nth time, I haven't been here for a while but was just interested to find out if MLP was 'everywhere' and I don't know a better place to ask than here as there are so many fans.

I didn't want to spark a political arguement.

Eyes, it's the net I s'pose ~ for some reason some things stick and others just drift away, but at least we put something out there :)

    Kestra, ditto.

Anyway, thanks for the replys guys :) The thread was really just to point out to Man that MLP is popping up everywhere as he was confused that it occurred on his game site. He is now less paronoid :shifty:

    Live and let canter...

    * shrugs * I've never watched the show and I consider myself neutral. I don't necessarily agree with all of the criticism directed at MLP fans, but it's seemed to me like the majority of them are no different from civilized members of any other fan base. The problem comes from a relative minority essentially cramming the series down the throats of other places, intentionally or otherwise. I grew up watching Transformers and a number of other good cartoons from that era, and I still enjoy them. It doesn't matter that their formatting was geared more towards kids first or that they have a share of loose continuity or general plot silliness. What matters to me is that the basic ideas worked and the characters were memorable.

I also think that eventually some of it will die down from the levels we're seeing now, as happens with all memes and trends. I was here when the Great Badger Wars erupted somewhat spontaneously in Misc, and for a time even the mere mention of the word "badger" inspired fear and/or annoyance from a lot of the regulars. Good times.

Well, there's one dedicated thread in a part of the forum you have to opt in to see and there were threads for the episodes of the new seasons in Sci-Fi/Fantasy, though not for the latest one, so maybe that has died. too. That looks pretty 'died down' to me.

    I guess it's not any worse than being a horror/gore fan... I don't trust those either. :p

I let things go for the most part, as long as they don't get out of control. I did not ban discussion of ponies (as this thread and the longer one in TNZ should show, or avatars and I even just brought on a mod who likes the stupid things, but when it got overdone and then people were bringing into something nice I try to do for the posters (which takes a shitload of time and work), then I saw red. It was a slap in the face to me.

Most things in moderation are fine. We run a fair board. I'm not perfect; I don't always make the right choices but we do our best to run a decent board for all, not for one small group, which means that sometimes people will be unhappy because I squelch something that I find to be out-of-control.

Tough shit. And hey, if I thought someone was a homosexual pedophile, I'd say so, not dance around it. You know me better than that. Having said that, my view as a grown woman who has raised girl children is to, diplomatically this time, find male fandom of a show based on toys made for little girls creepy. CREEPY, not with "homophobic implications of pedophilia." Good lord man, in my dislike of the stupid things, it never even crossed my mind to associate the pony lovers with homosexuality (or non-homosexuality) in any way. Kindly do not put words into my mouth in future.

When the fuck have I *ever* been subtle about *anything?* If that was my viewpoint, I'd have said so straight out.

Ah, you should check it out some time. It's my impression that the perception of Bronies is clouded by misconceptions due to the earlier toys and the older shows to which the current show bears little resemblance.
It's quite harmless, positive and lots of fun. Most people who check it out kind of like it and even if you don't it should become clearer why people like the show and that there's nothing creepy about liking it.
It's supposed to be a family show and the later episodes have a lot of nerdy references in them (they even got John DeLancie to voice a character that's very similar to Q).

See I don't get that.? It just seems a odd thing to me that one's gender sort implies that certain fandoms are "creepy" to be into. Would you consider a a grown woman that was into GI Joe or Transformers "creepy"

Does "creepy" mean "disturbed" or "brain damaged?"

    Because, then, yes.

instead of bashing on Bronies this time, im going to post the single best 96 seconds of My Little Pony ive ever seen

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8YdedK8J4M&feature=related

and lets be honest this is the only part of Brony culture worthwhile, video mash up, be it movie trailers, or Mongrels, the use of My Little Pony footage for mash up, is quite clever, and by itself subverts what people think of My Little Pony.

That or its proof you cant ruin the brilliance of Mongrels.

Delancie is Discord in MLP, which he plays (basically) the same way as he does "Q"

I don't think any of the posters meant it as a slap in the face. I honestly don't see how it could be.

    Agreed.

I don't think that was what you meant but your comments carried an overtone that could be taken that way and when you're the head honcho you have to be more careful as people will take you more seriously than some random idiot like myself.

The fact that you find it creepy of all things says more about you than it does about the MLP fans. It's incredibly narrow-minded on your part to say something can only be enjoyed by a certain group of people and if anyone else enjoys it then it's "creepy." It's also sexist.

And even if you do find it creepy it doesn't really need to be said, certainly not in the way that you said it. I think the Trekkies (and Warsies and Doctor Whosies) who dress up are odd and sometimes make fandom look like a joke. I tend not to go around saying that on here because it's a relatively harmless activity and it's not fair of me to judge people solely on that. You should give the MLP fans the same respect.

Edit: And, again, I've never seen the show so I'm not speaking out to its quality. It could be shit (and I'm guessing it is) but it's not in anyway harmful shit. Hell, ACTUAL creepy people i.e. pedophiles have a high rate of being Star Trek fans. Should we start throwing around accusations towards big Trek fans. Of course not. That'd be ridiculous.

Edit 2: My intention is not to attack you although I'm sure it seems as if I am. We've had differences in the past, especially in TNZ, but this is not personal here. I can only imagine how many petty issues you have to deal with and that it must build up after a while but I just feel the MLP fans are getting a raw deal here.

Has it really, really come to this point? Are you people fucking serious? Let people like what they like! You don't have to watch it. Just like I don't have to watch "The O.C." or "Desperate Housewives", but I really like "Grey's Anatomy" and "Castle" and never miss an episode of those shows. This is a board based on a franchise for Gods sakes.

What is up with parts of the Internet these days? This place used to be really, really fun. I mean proper fun. filled with lots of great people, but that's just...died over the last few years. And no, I'm not just talking about the ponies. I've watched a few eps of the show, will probably watch more because I find it amusing, but I'm not like the number one fan ever. It's that the fun people have lost their patience over big deals being made about the silliest things (fellow Swede KTR and the "side-boob" controversy a few years back for one) and left. Most stuff is really some mods having some opinions of their own and not being able to keep those and board policy apart.

Is only one side at fault? Of course not. Even I admit it that some poster like Chemakhuu (hope I spelled that right) have gone overboard with it at points. But seriously, being treated like you're just raped somebody's newborn, then their dog and wife, and then went back to the dog is just not cool. And we have several people of different opinions and faiths around here and they get along. A bit back when J. still had his faith he was one of the more prolific Christian posters around here. But he and I still got along even though I am a pretty open with being an atheist. Hell, even if he still was an active Christian he'd still be one of the best, most respectful men I know. Sadly this can not be said about a lot of other people.

In closing, people needs to chill the frak out and respect each other. From both sides.

And if I get banned for this, so be it. It was fun while it lasted.

and i don't think they're gay, peados, rapists or anything of that ilk, i just think they're annoying as hell.

I'm not putting words in your mouth. You said that you would keep them away from children. Among other things. That implies pedophilia. And whether or not you, or others, have directly implied homosexuality, there is certainly enough chauvinism to point in that direction.

Honestly Kes, I don't know what will get a person banned anymore. What gets me is the excessive hate on display. And unfortunately such things bring out rather bitchy sides of me.
