As to why? To repeat something I said in another thread few minutes ago:

I enjoy the show, not a rabid fan, but I think it's funny, cute, and actually it's nice to have a silly little kiddie show on at the end of the week to take the edge of. You know it's fun, like Transformers or Thundercats or Star Trek...but what do I know, I didn't get he memo that said what is acceptable to enjoy in geek culture these days.

Hey, it's either ponies or cigarettes and booze. And smokes are to damn expensive and I don't drink.

So, all the stories one hears about Ohio are true? :p

I think the MLP craze is proof the Internet has gone full-on crazy.

I mean, a freaking cartoon show about ponies?! Sure, fine, maybe you like it. I'll take that. But to this level of craze? Yeesh.

I accidentally Godwin'd a thread on the third post. At least it was an implicit, backhanded sort of Godwins' ;).

I'm frightened that if I watch this show, I'll like it myself. It sounds like the sort of thing I'd watch with a sparkle in my eyes and a strange, slightly twisted but contented smile...

    But I will be strong...

I'm a member of a private (entirely British, mainly about sports and betting) board, someone started a MLP thread in our off-topic section, their profile picture was changed to that of Ian Huntley, their post was changed to contain some rather vile suggestions about them, ponies and children and their user name was changed to 'pony fucker' for a week.

    It's that sort of board.

I so wish I hadn't said anything. :guffaw:

Sorry to kick things off (again) but I just really wanted to know if MLP had gone viral.

The link between TBBS and boardgamegeek and other sites mentioned, seems to suggest a bizarre nerd (don't moan about the word we all are) hivemind of a closet gaiety. As in we all secretly want to be colourful and happy :D

You are remarkably perceptive, sir.
Seriously, though, when I do watch the show, that is how I feel. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :adore:

I think we do. I love the lack of cynicism, the beautiful, bright, candy colors, the optimism, the silly humor, and the characters themselves are well written and more developed than most characters on sitcom television. I think we all agree a show is better when the producers and writers actually believe in it, and love it as more than a simple job. MLP:FiM is an example of that.

Aren't all boards what the admin(s) want? What's new about that? A forum is essentially private property, not a public square, and the First Amendment doesn't apply. Everything is essentially a social contract between the administration and members.

How's it any different than any other over the top fandom craze?

I introduced ponies to the other board I frequent (Yes, shoot me now ;)).

Believe me, it's taken all my charisma and the fact that it's the sort of board where most things are said tongue-in-cheek that I got off lightly.

I have seen it quite a bit on a few boards I visit from time-to-time. Mainly gaming sites, they seem to have a larger percentage than normal.

It's a Saturday Morning cartoon geared towards young girls (Yes, yes, there's stuff in it for people of all ages to enjoy, but only probably so parents can watch it with kids and monitor what they are watching) featuring ponies, pastel colors and cutesy voices.

But I get people want to like the show, but it seems to be overly consuming people to insane levels.

Thankfully I have cigarettes and wine :)

:guffaw: *pencils in Ohio for a trip*

The internet gone crazy? There'll be skateboarding dogs next ;)

    Harsh.

Forgiven ~ I tried to introduce Meerkats but they do not have the staying power

Disclaimer ~ I have no problem with ponies. I find the invasion most illogical but amusing. Trot on Bronies :D

I'm with you on all of this, except I feel that we've already been shown what kind of board this is. It is what it is, I guess.

Also K, I tried to start my own forum called BronyKingdom and for some reason all the bronies came and took over there.

Yeah, you know the next thing the bronies will be doing is dressing up in costume and showing up for jury duty or work; hell some of them might rebuild their houses into reproductions of places from the show.

Good to know Trekkies and SW fans would never get that crazy over a show or a movie...right?

I find the rabid hatred (especially the homophobic implications of pedophilia) directed toward MLP fans to be extremely disturbing. Doubly so, since it's endorsed and encouraged by the administration. It seems like a nice show, very 60s.

Power to the Ponies, man. :bolian:

If you guys want to talk about MLP as a web phenomenon for the nth time, be my guest. If you want to use this thread to rehash the Brony Halloween name incident or complain about the administration, take it up in QS&F where it belongs.
