I might rent the sampler to get a feel for TNG in blu, and if I like what I see I'll buy the season sets when they're released. I'm just hoping the seasons won't be $100 a piece. Regardless of how much I love TNG, paying that amount of money for a TV show is just absurd.

Why is it even an issue, just buy the darn thing! It's $4.00 per hour.

I have a sneaking suspicion each season will be in the $100 range. I haven't bought season 2 or 3 of TOS on Blu-Ray yet and all the sets I've found so far are around $90.

Yeah about the same price at $4 per ep, not bad really.

As long as they don't realease them all at the same time then I'll be ok.

If there was any series I'd take with me to a desert island it was be STNG....in bluray.:techman: Whatever it costs, getting it is a foregone conclusion. Amortized over a 4-5 year release period, its not a bad buy.

I hope this thing sells like gangbusters and they start working on DS9 as well. Getting ahead of myself though.

Now there's a whole new can of worms!

Surely CGI created for TV resolution wouldn't stand up to HD, meaning all the effects from about series 5 onwards will have to be re-done?

When I can buy the DVD sets for a fifth of that price, it makes me wonder if buying the blu ray set is even worth it.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but money is tight right now, and if I were to buy all 7 seasons of TNG on blu ray for $100 a piece that would come out to $700.

Then again, the other option I always have is to sell my old Star Wars collection that's just been collecting dust for a long time; that could probably fetch me 8 or 9 hundred, which would be more than enough to cover the costs of this TV series.

I've seen them regularly go on sale, through Amazon, Best Buy, and other retailers, for $50 each, since I bought mine for that price over two years ago. You can certainly find them used for that price right now, and if you keep an eye out during the holiday sales, can probably find them new for that cost as well.

I might rent this disc, but see no reason why I'd buy it, since I'm almost certainly getting the season sets (I don't have them on DVD).

Does anyone else think the starfield shot from "Sins Of The Father" looks odd? Looks poorly overlayed or something?

I actually bought Season 1 of TOS-R for that price but I haven't seen Season 2 or 3 go on sale for that price since I got it.

Even the first four seasons have CGI: Odo.

Basically, DS9 is probably never going to be fully HD. They might be able to get away with just upscaling the morphs & space battles, and handling the rest like TNG.

^ I'm not following.

Are you suggesting that the treatment they are giving TNG - which, I assume, will result in a fully HD product - will not work with DS9 (or VOY)? If not, why not? What is it about those two shows that makes them more difficult to HD-ize than TNG?

Yes, that's what I'm suggesting. The problem with both DS9 and Voyager is their extensive CGI work, which was only rendered for SDTV resolutions; any CGI would need to be either upscaled (and thus not HD) or recreated from scratch.

For TNG this isn't a problem, as there is minimal or no use of CGI. Or Enterprise since it was rendered at HD resolutions from the start.
