Sorry to see the (forthcoming) end to this story but how brilliant it's been! Enjoy! :bolian:

I love it. The station looks great without half a dozen Botany Bay's surrounding it!

Honestly, I read the first book in this series and didn't care for it. Skipped the rest. But the whole reason I bought that book in the first place was because Masao's station looked so awesome!

Thanks, Alex!

Just proves that the old adage about not judging a book by its cover doesn't always hold true. Its usually the cover that draws me in and in this case Masao did the job perfectly! :)

Great job all round. Nice Station design, nice execution. Any thoughts to doing art on other ships mentioned? There are a lot of novels that mention ships but never show them...

The composition of the image is rather uninspired... it lacks... "three-dimensional thinking", also the lighting is quite flat and doesn't reflect the background at all.

I have to agree with beamMe on this one. I'm no big fan of TOS stuff so there's no oohing and ahhing at the ships, I'm more into the composition. The layout is very one sided and the lighting is rather bright and even compared to the darkly colourful background image. It makes you think the station and ships should be bathed in a subtle greeny blue light. Also the only thing with any dynamism is the shuttle which is so small you almost miss it.

Try altering the light to a darker, more dramatic lighting rig with the station rim lit with green/blue to match the nebula. Maybe add more of an angle to the composition as well to make it look more alive and dynamic, rather than everything aligned on one plane. I'd also think about using the space a little more, it's very one sided right now.

This has the potential to be an epic shot, it just needs some tweaking to take it to the next level.

Remember this is for a book cover. The left half has to be fairly blank for the back of the book blurb.

Since Drexler is rendering the covers for that series, I doubt this image is intended to be a book cover.
If it were the compositional problems would be even worse.

It says it's a wallpaper, I assumed that's all it was for. Book or wallpaper, the crit of the lighting still stands.

It may not be an official cover, but it does appear to be laid out for wrapping a book.
