What's with all the ponies?

I was intrigued by this quote:

As various Transformers fans are quick to point out, MLP FiM is the "Beast Wars" of that franchise.

Now I suddenly have a hankering to see ponies that transform. What would they be like? Would they live on Equestron?

It's been done. Search around on Equestria Daily and you'll see some fan art where the ponies are like Transformers.

The difference between My Little Pony and Star Wars is negligible.

Especially when MLP has scenes that explicitly are in homage to Star Wars.

In the same episode that had Q actually - MLP has a Star Wars/Star Trek crossover!

Yes! Someone did a comparison:

Add to that John DeLancie did the voice of Discord, and you've got pure win.

It's not a meme, it's just an expression of the fandom of people who like the rebooted version of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic; a cartoon show that has almost no connection to earlier generations of MLP, is very entertaining and although aimed at children produced in such a way that it appeals to adults as well (if they are open-minded enough ;)).

Now this makes sense, I guess I'll have to check out these Youtube videos!

This. Also Danoz you've been in TNZ quite a lot so I assume you at least had a look in our thread there for an explanation first?

That would be a bold assumption :P

Didn't we have a thread about this already, with the almost exact title only recently? Everything runs in cycles, man.

Ah, here it is.

In fairness to me, that thread is over 3 months old!

Yeah, it didn't really hit full swing until about 3-4 months ago, which is when I became a Brony.

What is a Brony? :p

:klingon:

;)

For those who may not know, a "Brony" is a shorthand nickname for "Bro Pony" (though opinions differ), or an adult who is a fan of the show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic".

The show appeals to these adults for a variety of reasons, of which a few include the show's lack of cynicism, and it's emphasis on differing viewpoints being a strength rather than a weakness in a friendship. The show has generally well written stories, deeply developed characters (moreso than the average sitcom), technical achievement, many quotable lines of dialogue, and due to the above, a very strong and growing fanbase.

Some would consider the show to be aimed solely at young girls. This is made in error, and has been explained many times in the past, and is generally ignored. To quickly recap, the show's creator, Lauren Faust, who was involved in such animated programs as "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" and "The Powerpuff Girls", has stated that the show was written for children and adults. In her own words, "I didn't create this show for little girls. I created this show for little girls and their parents-- including male parents. It only stands to reason that adult animation fans without children may like it too." [LINK].

Like her previously mentioned projects, MLP:FiM has broad based appeal, and it's lessons resonate with people of all ages and genders.

And yet the search function still detects it when you search for "ponies." As it does these threads which asked the same question or became all about ponies soon enough:

http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=146879&highlight=ponies

http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=147326&highlight=ponies

But since the question has already been answered and you have access to the Brony Thread in TNZ, this is redundant and can be closed.
