New Christmas Special thread

The Sun are reporting the guest stars:

Claire Skinner
Arabella Weir
Alexander Armstrong
Bill Bailey

World War II setting - second time in the Moffat era (Victory of the Daleks, and now Xmas 2011). Although it may not be entirely set there, as there are rumours Moffat has loosely based this on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

No really "big" name this year, but interesting cast anyway. The poster on Gallifrey Base who flagged the QI connection was right, as Bailey is a regular on that, although not on every episode.

Er, wasn't there something about that bloke with the Charlie Chaplin moustache a couple of weeks ago...?

(All right, I think technically that was meant to be 1938, but still...)

In that case, I wonder if it's based on Jonathan Morris' "The Professor, the Queen, and the Bookshop" from Doctor Who Magazine #429, which retells The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as a Doctor Who story, and then the Doctor gives C.S. Lewis some pointers at an Inklings meeting. :)

Arabella Weir? <Sigh>

Maybe she'll be better in the Special, then she was in the unbound Audio Story, because I hated that, almost nothing but a non-stop hour (+/-) of belching and puking. I like all the other 6 or 7 Unbound Audio Stories I've heard, some of them, I like very much.

Interesting news. I love Narnia (at least the book this episode will be loosely based off of) so I'm looking forward to seeing Doctor Who's take on it, especially sinceMoffat did a smashing job with Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

And it's called The Lion, The Witch, And The TARDIS

I guess there's no copyright laws in Narnia

Normally the Star wouldn't be a reliable source, but since this is just "quote the press release" stuff...

Actually, no it isn't. The title hasn't been announced. Here's the Doctor Who News Page item which, you'd think, would announce the title:

All I see is Moffat comparing the forest to TLTWTW. Mind you, he did once say the 2010 Christmas special would be a bit like, uh, A Christmas Carol...

Alex

PS. It's weird that only a few days after I gushed over his comedic version of the Doctor Who theme, now I find Bill Bailey's been cast on the special!

Spooky ain't it!

Glad BB is gonna be in this, been a fan a long time, and I like Armstong too. I'm assuming he won't be playing Mr Smith, though I will piss myself if he's an RAF pilot

Ice warriors? Will the kids and the mum follow the Doctor into the TARDIS and end up on Mars? ;)

I really hope Moffat isn't going to say "It'll be the most christmassy special ever" every year...

I hope it loses some of the excess timey-wimeyness that somewhat marred ACC, for me at least, too.

So set in WW2? I wonder if there's any possibility of a Jack appearance, after all he was there... well at least three different versions of him that we know about :)

Though they do seem to be visiting WW2 a lot in the new era. I guess it gets people to watch but still.

Well, I would say that it is possible that someting happened during WWII that Jack wasn't involved with. But the guy does have a love affair with the 1940s, he started wearing 1940s clothes 20 years before the decade and continues wearing them 70 years later, so maybe it's possible that he revisits the decade so often that there's a version of him at every signinficant part of the decade.

But I don't think he'll be in the Christmas special.
