I am Adopting a Dog Today

Peacemaker

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Her name is Lilly. She is a 3 year old Boston Terrier who was found in the middle of the road with no owner about a month ago. Her foster family is bringing her over in a little while.

I'm doing this because I fell in love with my boyfriend's Boston, Walley, two years ago. We broke up recently, and I lost Walley. I can still visit, but he lives 4 hours away, and it's just not the same. I really need a dog too. I've been thinking about this for a long time, so I decided to take the plunge.

After she arrives, we're heading out to Pet Smart to shop for food and toys. I am also going to take her to magic window where we talk to the nice lady and hamburgers come out! Walley always loved to go for rides to the magic window :)

Pictures will come later.

This is the best one I have so far (it's kinda big)

Peacemaker, I recommend taking your new doggie on a walk around the neighborhood BEFORE you let her in the house. You will have established yourself as the leader, plus she'll be a bit more calm when you introduce her to her new territory.

Congrats, dude.

Well done! We adopted Emily from the Dogs' Trust in May. Emily and I spent this morning out in the sun walking by the river. It's something I probably wouldn't have done on a Saturday morning before we got her. I can't believe how much of the neighbourhood I've discovered since having a dog and taking her for walks. :)

Congratulations and good for you for saving an abandoned pet. I'm sure Lilly will be very grateful to have a stable and loving home. :)

I also find this magic window intriguing....

Thanks; I will walk her around the hood and the perimeter of the property too. She is coming to me with everything already paid for too. She has her bowls, her crate, leashes, a year Pet Smart vet insurance, and a toy. There are cats here too; so we're going to spend most of her day together in my room with the door closed, after we get home from the magic window and Pet Smart.

Lilly is beautiful, and such a lucky girl. We've adopted several dogs in the past and it's so good to give a needy pet a home.

The magic window made me laugh. My brother used to take the family Shetland Sheepdog through the McDonald's drive-thru so often that the staff knew my brother's voice and always had a 6-pack of McNuggets with no sauce ready for our dog.

Congrats Peacemaker on adopting a dog. Beautiful girl!
My next dog will be adopted. We bought our Dachshund Kirby from a pet store in 1998 when the evils of the puppy mills weren't fully known. He's an awesome dog, and we love him so much, but had I known then what I know now, we certainly would have adopted.

And that right there is why I would never own a dog: I am not interested in a pet where I would have to have a constant battle for dominance. I'm going to get enough of that in what I think will be my new job (going back as a retail manager), and would not want that at home. With cats, it's more of a give-and-take relationship between "equals." As long as a few basic ground rules are met--mainly consisting of "don't destroy my furniture/belongings" and "don't do your business outside the box"--most of the rest is negotiable. ;)

That said, I actually do like some dogs. But they have to be big dogs. And they have to be my neighbors' dogs--in other words, go back home after I'm done playing with them. ;)

But seriously, I am always glad to hear when rescue animals are adopted. That's wonderful! :D

She is here now. She is in love with her toy Mr. Squeaky Lips (a dog toy with big squeaky lips) and we are learning "sit.":techman:

She is adapting very quickly. She is already my shadow. Where I go, she goes. She reminds me a lot of Walley too. She has his " I want people food" stare down pat, and she likes to sleep next to me on the bed. She's small enough that I can also hold her in my lap while sitting for awhile.

Hee hee! I much prefer cats, myself, but I love both cats and dogs and grew up surrounded by both. However, I have never been under the delusion that any of my cats have ever deigned to see me as an "equal." I've usually gotten the impression that they allowed me to have them in my house.
