Approaching holidays...are we thinking the same thing?

All hail the corporate mindset so many are willing to acquiesce to.

I encouraged you to take your grievances up with your employer, so how is that acquiescing to the corporate mindset, whatever that may mean?
If you don't like what your employer does or think that there's room for improvement and if you can make a case, possibly backed up by other co-workers, than you should talk to them, in a diplomatic way, of course, not in the belligerent tone evident in your OP. I've done it and sometimes it worked, other times it didn't. But at least, I had done what I could instead of being constantly frustrated about something while at work.

If anything, a 'corporate' mindset would be to all go along with 'everyone loves Christmas!' without question or acknowledgement of any other viewpoint. Not shoving a majority religion down others' throats is about thinking individually, not corporately.

The OP is arrant nonsense, overly familiar and yet expounded upon at ridiculous length as if it constitutes some kind of original thought.

It's simple: keep your religious holidays, whatever the "cultural" excuse, out of my office. Go to church, put up a Christmas tree at home or something and leave other people alone to do as they like.

There is no Christmas stuff in your office? And what's with all the Christmas stuff on the streets, on TV, on radio, everywhere?

I do think that everyone who doesn't like Christmas is weird, because essentially it's all about love, peace, joy and a shitload of presents and gifts for people you like, and it doesn't matter what religion you have. It's not a very religious thing anyway anymore. Santa Clause's prominence doesn't have any religious reasons, it's just the result of Coca Cola's very aggressive marketing campaign.

It won't truly feel like Christmas, though, until we have the first thread complaining about people saying "Happy Holidays" or how Christmas celebrations are being suppressed. It gets me in the Christmas spirit like the smell of pine needles and eggnog.

Looks like the holiday season has officially begun, and kicked off by the same person who started last year's War on Christmas whining, albeit much earlier this time. Joy.

Limits on public celebrations of religious holidays don't sour the Christmas season half so much as this grinchy whining and complaining.

There's no reason specifically Christmas decorations should be in public places. Here in America we've already had to put up with enough supposedly "Christian" doctrine in our country that I'm okay with it being frowned upon to decorate.

^This. I have no problem with simple lights, "snowflake" decorations, etc. As much as I LOVE Christmas, we don't need all our public spaces smothered in symbols of one specific religion. There are other people who don't celebrate Christmas, so acting like it's a right to have your holiday plastered all over everything is a bit obnoxious and not exactly a very democratic approach. I do, however, think it's fine to have a multicultural display---like a Menorah and a Christmas tree together, something like that.

Besides, Christmas as we know it is actually the Winter Solstice celebration after it was hijacked by the Christians. Jesus was actually born in July and during Roman times, they needed to hide their holiday behind the facade of the Roman celebrations. So, throw in the German/Scandinavian Winter Holiday customs and there you have it.

People need to just calm the fuck down and enjoy their holiday as much as they can. Life is far too short for all this foolishness.

So, in answer to the OP, no, we are NOT thinking the same thing at all.

The minute my boss stops paying my bills is the day I will complain about his rules. Business are private entities owned by people who are free to dictate what is and isn't acceptable. It's the owner's right to say, "Christmas decorations aren't allowed" a lot more than it is your right to display them.

You know what's important to me? Wearing sweatpants. I love sweatpants a helluva lot more than I love Christmas, but I'm not going to get angry about not being able to wear them to the office.

I had a job once where it was a fire-able offense to make popcorn. The owner of the company hated the smell. And I'm not talking about burnt popcorn. Any popcorn.

The smell of popcorn gives me a headache. I would ban it too. :p

I always hear people saying "But it's largely secular now, so why can't everyone enjoy Christmas?" as well as people also complaining about "taking Christ out of Christmas.". No matter how you look at it, Christmas has a religious background to it and that's going to make some people uncomfortable. Sure, non-Christians can participate, but that doesn't mean they should have to.

That's what I loved about growing up in Leicester - we had lights up for Diwali first in October/November time and then they stayed there for Christmas. It was brilliant :techman:
