What was wrong with "These are the Voyages"

TATV SUXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!

brought to you by: "QUINTO'S SPOCK SHOULD BE CONSTANTLY SHOUTING" [TM]

Some people say that Bound was worse than TATV. But you know what? At least Bound had attractive scantily clad green women in it, so therefore Bound > TATV. :p

I always thought "Bound" had kind of an intentionally cheesy vibe to it, so I never really hated it like a lot of folks seem to.

Well, they were scantily clad and green, that's true. But attractive? That's pushing it. :p

If the green wasn't that puckish shade it would have been much better. The shade of green they used in TOS for Orion women is what they should have used - it was perfect. Even the shade in Borderland was better.

That being said, at least Bound didn't feel like a deliberate slap in my face like TATV did. So, yeah, Bound > TATV.

"Bound", er, hit the spot, in the way shows like "Rajin", "Bounty" feel like somewhat cheaper exploitation.

Demeaning maybe?

Or maybe I just have a thing for green.

Before the sexist accusations start, I would just like to say women everywhere had Connor and Scott in various stages of unclothing to drool over.

Oh yeah.

:nyah:

Forgot to blow a raspberry in direction of "These aren't the Voyages..."

TATV is pretty bad, especially in its context. At best its mediocre. But objectively, there are worse Enterprise episodes. ANIS is probably the worst Trek episode of all time, Precious Cargo is easily the 2nd worst ENT episode ever.

But those two didn't call into question the very status of the show by opening up the possibility that the whole thing was just a badly written holodeck program.

Agreed. ANiS and Precious Cargo are pretty awful, but ANiS has some rewatchability (most of the scenes with Phlox and Archer in sickbay are pretty amusing) and Precious Cargo doesn't invalidate everything that came before it.

TATV isn't just bad, it's insulting, disrespectful, and the fact that it doesn't even jibe with TNG, never mind ENT, it's unforgivably sloppy.

I can tell you right now, its presence in the updated Concordance will only be because of the few historical tidbits contained within. Otherwise, the vast bulk will be considered apocryphal, written off as a bad holodeck program. It's THAT bad.

If Enterprise was a badly written holodeck program as TATV inferred, it would explain Archer's actions in ANIS.

Hey, at least ANIS is a fun watch, which is more than I can say for a very large number of ENT episodes. :p

True. There is a long history of screwed up holodeck programs on the ENT-D.

In fact, there should have been a great big

on the door!

ANIS was a fun episode and TATV didn't suck nearly as much as fan hyperbole would suggest. People are out of work, going hungry and selling off their internal organs to put food on their table. TATV was not that big of a deal.

My biggest complaint about "These are the Voyages..." is that Troi looked like this...

instead of like this...

In the first picture, Marina Sirtis looks more like a cosplayer dressing as Troi!

OH, and do I need to mention how lazy the tech and stage crew were to reconvert the Ent-E turbolifts back into the Ent-D turbolifts?
