Keenser

...Yoda has never been given a species name in all the Star Wars-related media featuring him.

Which is very odd, considering how practically every bit-player alien who was in the background of a crowd scene for 2 seconds has had a whole personal and species history developed in the Expanded Universe by this point.

If it's been decided to leave at least one character's background a mystery, I suppose it makes sense to have it be the "wise old master". Given the mythic quality to Star Wars, I guess Lucas thinks losing this one last piece of Unknown would take from the universe more than any origin tale could put in?

PS: If there are any fellow Farscape fans here: Seeing as Yoda is a small, green puppet with a lengthy lifespan, lets call him a mutant Hynerian. :)

I'm guessing that not naming Yoda's species is Lucas' way of continuing to show that he is special and unique.

Which is odd since there is another member of Yoda's species in TPM (a female Jedi Master, named Yaddle).

And I liked Keenser and wouldn't mind him and/or his species reappearing.

At times he seems more like a trained monkey.
So do many officers. That proves nothing. ;)

Love FarScape! Yet another classic Sci-Fi show cancelled before its time.

Could you just imagine the lovechild of Yoda and Rygel?

The game Knights of the Old Republic, set 4000 years before the movies, also had a member of Yoda's species. He was an odd one, though, having a second name (Vandar Tokare) and not having the Yoda-speech pattern.

^Maybe he was from a different linguistic/ethnic group of the same species, with a different grammatical structure and naming conventions. Heck, if 4000 years have passed, it's inevitable that the language would be different.

Although I have no knowledge of Yaddle beyond her being a female of Yoda's species, sitting on the Council in TPM but not present for the rest of the prequels, is it possible that Yoda is the only one who speaks in that particular speech pattern? Maybe English (sorry, Basic) is more difficult for him to grasp?

Or he's doing it deliberately to make his speech memorable. Easy to remember, Yoda's teachings are. Idiosyncratic syntax, they use. Stand out, his pearls of wisdom do. :)

master even piell is one of yoda's race, and he's listed as a member of the Lannik species. interestingly enough in clone wars he talks with a russian accent.

According to Wookieepedia, the Lannik are not Yoda's race, despite the resemblance.
A resemblance that I appear to be the only one who doesn't see.

One is a toy-sized green reptillian, three-fingered, dactyl-toed puppet/CGI effect. The other is played by a small human in makeup, has flesh-coloured skin, five digits on each hand, human-like feet (we assume, since he wears shoes), and no visible scales. I know phenotype is subject to individual variation, but come on!

It'd be like saying Worf and Gul Dukat are the same species (two arms, two legs, one head. . .).

As for the other new races introduced in Nu-Trek, I've come up with a couple of names and details for some of them:

Fenarian (Bronze-scaled Enterprise Science Officer)
From a dry planet, where water is scarce and intense sunlight bakes the surface. Physiologically adapted to handle extreme temperatures and arid environments. Their society is a caste based one, with inhabitants being born into one of six (Builder, Merchant, Religious, Ruler, Scholar, Warrior).

Kamorian (Big-eyed Kelvin Doctor)
They are somewhat unique among sentient races as their history is devoid of war, due to the fact that their neurochemistry makes it impossible for them to lie. As a result, when they ventured out into space honest and openess became of paramount importance to them with other races. Their eyes are not only larger than a humans, but also allow them to see in a variety of visual specturms, which in turn allows them to tell when known species are lying to them.

Not allowed story ideas here, sorry.

IIRC, Christopher suggested that the Bug Eyed Nurse was, perhaps, a Cygnian (from TAS)
