My dad and best friend are republicans

That's a pretty wild generalization. I have no need for religion.

Which is why I included spirituality in there, which is a term that doesn't necessarily mean religion. It can mean self actualization, mastery, the need to love others, commune with nature, whatever makes you feel complete.

Animals don't do this.

I didn't see "the need to love others" as "spirituality" but ok.

Spirituality does not mean what you think it does.
Yes, it does.

Secular spirituality emphasizes humanistic qualities such as love, compassion, patience, tolerance, forgiveness, contentment, responsibility, harmony, and a concern for others[8]:22, aspects of life and human experience which go beyond a purely materialist view of the world, without necessarily accepting belief in a supernatural reality or divine being. Spiritual practices such as mindfulness and meditation can be experienced as beneficial or even necessary for human fulfillment without any supernatural interpretation or explanation.

You're even slower than my edits.
You mean I'm faster? Since I obviously quoted you before you edited.

Well to me spiritual refers to the supernatural, as in Spirits, and does not apply to secularism or atheism. So yeah, stretch that word to all random nice things, and it doesn't mean anything.
I disagree. If you read the section in question, you will see that the definition certainly does not fit all random nice things. It doesn't necessarily even include nice things, or the stipulation that you are nice to others. Just an overall desire to feel a connection with something greater than yourself, be it society, nature, the universe, ect.

Animals don't do this.

Unless you're Dr. Doolittle I don't see how you can state this with any certainty. Outside of our ability to cause vast changes to the global environment there's not a helluva lot different between us and other animals: tool use, language, emotions, engineering feats, etc. I don't see why it isn't possible that some animals have a sense of spirituality or an "interior life."

If you make spirituality to basically mean being fascinated by anything, the word is meaningless. It's like saying a hobby is something you do, like driving your car or going to work.
