Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

we will get new effects for things like phaser shots, ship-based phasers and photon torpedoes, etc. Amirite?

Yes, and they may choose to enhance certain things with CGI, you never know. There were a few things in TNG that used early CGI which will need to be remade from scratch.

So I guess we can still hope for some of those utterly generic stock shots (like the Excelsior-class ships always seen flying alongside the Enterprise) to be replaced. Hope springs eternal...

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

I also want new ship flybys in the opening titles for every episode!

I'm wondering what they are going to do with the Starbase shot. Are they going to rescan the negatives of that shot in TSFS again for this? Which would be interesting, because then we could compare the quality of the shot to the bluray release of the movie.

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

It's a shame the trailer doesn't show us much. The Enterprise at the end doesn't look as good as it does on the Blu-ray of Generations. I suppose it wouldn't necessarily look as good, but it's a shame that it doesn't.

I just know I'm going to be slightly underwhelmed when TOS-R finally comes out because it won't and probably can't be what I want it to be. Widescreen HD.

Mustn't grumble though. I should be more thankful for what we're all getting.

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

I guess I'm not understanding the meaning of "recompositioned". What exactly does that mean?

Laser...an example of how they originally composited to video from tape machine can be see here from Reading Rainbow on Youtube(note how they "cookie cut" the elements in):

Edit: Just saw this post from earlier today: http://www.trekbbs.com/showpost.php?p=5255800&postcount=432

It contains the Movie Magic FX story, that includes more looks at how they composited the FX.

Well its 3 months till release and possibly many months after that for the first season to be released...expect more trailers and footage.

complete first season Blu-ray release date speculation

its 3 months till release and possibly many months after that for the first season to be released.
Let's speculate on the release date for the complete 1st season on Blu-ray...
according to the original startrek.com release
starting in January with a sampler of several popular episodes, followed by a season-one set to be released later on in 2012, and subsequent seasons beaming down after that.
Which means the complete 1st season sometime before the Thanksgiving/Christmas shopping season. I'm betting November 15.
Comic-Con in July 2012 should have a nice trailer of season 1 for attendees.
Strategically there is the option of releasing season 1 in September 2012 and then season 2 in May 2013 almost 2 months before Trek XII is released in the cinemas June 29, 2012 so as not to mess with the marketing for Trek XII at the cinemas even though home video is an entirely different market...
By not announcing the release date now they are not painting themselves into a corner with 26 episodes to complete all post production, VFX, sound mixing, special features completion, and Blu-ray authoring by say late August to ship to retailers for post Labor Day 2012.

I'd say CBS really wouldn't release TNG-R season 2 until August of 2013 or possibly Labor Day of 2013 though. I think they will really just need the time.

and possibly release The Animated Series TAS or ENT in Blu-ray in early 2013.

Re: special features wishlist for TNG-R Blu-ray

Now that the TNG-R project is official what special features do you guys really want to see?
I'd like some branching original VFX in standard definition as a special feature.

CBS/Paramount has made their money a number of times over on TNG. How about finally the gag reel and other more frank opinions and reflections rather than EPK fluff?
It's the real fans buying the Blu-ray sets anyway.

I want to see more behind the scenes footage. They better mine those Entertainment Tonight camera tapes...

The Enterprise DVD season sets in 2005 were better for their special features than the TNG sets in 2002.

But you're comparing a low bitrate 720p YouTube clip to a high bitrate 1080p Blu-ray. Also, that shot is not actually in Generations. They used a lower angle looking up at the ship as it passes over.

Oh who has time to watch all those!! It took me years to even look at most of the DVD ones. I'm happy to get a 46 minute episode in HD period!

In all my years, I NEVER thought I'd be using a STNG TV screen cap as wallpaper, its enough to bring a tear to my eye...

The Star Trek sequel won't release until sometime in 2013.

It does look very nice. I can't wait for some uncompressed PNGs to start showing up on the web sometime around mid January.

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

1) Be sure to crank the resolution to 720.

2) Note that they corrected the Enterprise on the package.

That particular vid doesn't have that option.

There is if you watch it on YouTube, genius.

Perhaps I should have been clearer...that particular embed doesn't "crank" up to 720p while other embeds on this thread DO. Of course I know they do ON Youtube.... I was being facetious.

I mentioned that to a certain someone...but no response.

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

You know, at the very least there's two things in the series I'd want to see corrected in this whole project -if they end up doing the entire series.

1. That damn phaser coming out of torpedo tube in Darmok. There's no way that should have gotten by anyone when that episode was made. Yet, somehow, it did.

2. The consuming, odd, darkness/blackness in the corner of the screen in EaF during parts of the episode, especially the scenes with Picard in the 22c "courtroom."
