Superman (casting, rumors, pix till release)

I was 15 when Superman IV came out and remember being very disappointed with it. I can't imagine what my reaction to it would be like now, but I'm guessing it hasn't aged like a fine wine.

One day, I will go into the UN, boastfully claim that I'll get rid of all the nukes in all the nations of the world, and I will be applauded for it with no one questioning my decision!

I'd like to also see you fly all the nukes in the world in a giant net and hurl them into the sun like you're an Olympic Hammer Thrower.

there is a cut scene that explains that:

British diplomat: We have to stop him!

American diplomat: Are you out of your fucking mind? He's got rid of all the nukes and could wipe us all out in seconds. Just shut the fuck up, smile and clap like the rest of us and hope King Superman the first lets us live.

Superman is such a dick.

The junkyard fight was good, but it made me laugh both Clark Kent and evil Superman thought any of the things they used to hurt each other actually would. The only thing would be Kryptonite, but even then that is harmful to both of them.

I always got the impression that the fight was a representation of the psychological Superman was having, and not that he was actually split in two and was duking it out with himself.

But the place was still smashed up after the fight was done, and it wouldn't be beyond the power of Red K to actually split him in two.

The fight was actually the one thing in S3 that made sense to me as a fanboy. I assumed Pryor had inadvertently created artificial Red K that first turned him evil and then split him into two individuals.

For more fun: the entire Superman IV NC review.

Where the fuck are world leaders coming up with diamonds the size of dinner plates in this economy?

^ Clark already made them for them from coal which in gratitude they presented to him...

Unfortuantely they had to get them out of Superman's bedpan.

It was clear to me that the imperfect Kryptonite he made was supposed to be the movie version of Red K. They couldn't make it red because then Pryor and co would've known right off the bat they'd got it wrong and wouldn't use it.

Superman III was more of a Richard Pryor movie. At least IV had it's heart in the right place and tried to get back to the magic of the franchise.

Doesn't mean IV didn't suck, which it did.
Oh, it did suck. I just rank it lower on the suck meter next to III.

Didn't President Obama already do this?

While I find SIII to be surprisingly watchable despite it's problems, it's still kind of mindboggling to me that they decided to follow up a kickass Superman vs Zod movie.... with a dumb comedy featuring Richard Pryor, a generic businessman, and a plan to use computers and weather satellites to control the economy (or whatever the hell that random, idiotic plan of his was).

I mean, what the fuck? With so many other great stories and supervillains to choose from, they went with THAT?? :wtf:

^ I thought I remember reading that they were considering Brainiac as a villain (hence the focus on the super computers and such), but opted out.

Then again, a lot of Superman's villains would have been hard to pull off, effects-wise, in the early 80s.

Nuclear Man sprung out from not being able to use Brainiac in Superman IV. There is video footage I believe on youtube of Brainiac from IV...think it's even been discussed at one point on the board. Can't remember.
