I prefer monkeys. I want a cute spider monkey in a starfleet uniform - maybe the tactical officer or a yeoman bringing up a PADD for a signature. That would be awesome. They can always glue giant ears or a great big horn on it if they want it to look more alien - or maybe put it in a robotic dog costume. Awesome.
That's an awsome idea. That might be enough to convince me to watch it even without Ponies.
