it's weird, but i don't think there are any shows i watch anymore. ever since nBSG's spin-off "Caprica" ended...
that said, i will catch doctor who when it starts back up, even if the quality has gone to the dogs. that said, i grew up on the cheesiest doctor who known to man, so it's a little late to start complaining now
Leverage seems to have good reviews. Any thoughts?
Leverage is a modern TV version of the Sting.
The nerd lads coms break down in an airport terminal and he doesn't know how to proceed with the mission, so the rest of the team paged him on the PA through the call centre "Could Mr Picard come to the courtesy phone. Mr Kirk Picard come to the white courtesy phone, thank you."
Leverage becomes excellent eventually, but the first few episodes felt like 80s Knight Rider more than a US version Hustle (Find Hustle.).

Season one of Suits finished last night and Gina Torres still takes my breath away.
Castle is formulaic but if you enjoy one episode you'll enjoy them all.
I'm really enjoying Spirited. An Australian fantasy drama about a dentist falling in love with the ghost of a punk rock idol.
It's just a sitcom but have you looked into "Awkward"?

I remember watching the episode in high school (you can do the math on how old that makes me), and thinking that they were a really cute couple.
That said, Siobhan Beckett will always be the girl of my dreams. I guess high school is just a very impressionable age
Haha, I was in grade 8 when the 1st season of E:FC aired, so you're not that much older. I was kind of dumb back then though because I thought the only scifi worth watching was Star Trek.
The Joining
Ha'Gel, an ancient alien escapes from his prison and begins killing human women in an attempt to procreate. All available personnel are dispatched to find him, but the only weapons capable of killing him are skrills. But when Siobhan Beckett begins investigating Lili, believing that she works for the Liberation, she uncovers the Liberation Headquarters, forcing Doors to prepare for the ultimate confrontation.
Death by sex. There's your episode summary in 3 words. Surprisingly this episode was much better than that summary, though it still had some problems.
Now first I should say that if I was imprisoned for thousands of years and finally freed, I would also go looking for women to procreate with.
It was nice seeing Beckett again, but it's strange how sure she was that Lili is Resistance. It just seemed like something invented to create a problem. Unless something happened in "The Secret Of Strandhill" that I can't remember. Speaking of the previous episode, does Beckett specialize with ancient Taelons who are causing problems? That's two in a row.
Anyway, Ha'gel goes on a rampage with his crazy shapeshifting ability and some kind of pheromone ability and leaves a trail of contented women. I'm not joking, that actually happens.
The Taelons are not very forthcoming about Ha'gel, but they finally that he is the last of a race of aliens who saved the Taelons from extinction only to be destroyed later by the Taelons.
Anyway, everything comes to a head at the church where the Resistance is headquartered. Beckett has followed Lili there and has called Sandoval in for backup. Unfortunately for Beckett, Sandoval is actually a shapeshifted Ha'gel. Ha'gel shows up, begins that thing he does while Lili watches... yes this happened.
Anyway, somehow Beckett doesn't die. Boone shows up and starts fighting and reasoning with Ha'gel. He almost becomes friends with Ha'gel, but the police arrive and Boone is forced to kill him. In the ensuing battle, Boone gets injured.
The Resistance discovers that Beckett is pregnant. But with what?
Meanwhile, Zo'or comes to visit Boone who is suspended in some kind of life support (?). With Sandoval watching, Zo'or touches the tank and somehow dissolves Boone into a million pieces. Uh... what?

Ooh, you've finished the first season. Now I'm really looking forward to your next reviews. They should be very interesting.
I think that was the first time a TV show genuinely made me FURIOUS. I credit that action with greatly advancing my ability to search and participate in sci-fi fandom online. First thing I did (well, after stomping around the house exerting pent up frustration) was launch AOL and go looking for some answers.
The First Of Its Kind
With Beckett in the Liberation headquarters about to give birth to an alien entity, Doors orders the facility to be evacuated. Meanwhile, at Boone's funeral, the probe thought destroyed in Russian kills Quo'on, leader of the Taelon Synod. As Sandoval begins a desperate search to find out what happened to Beckett, Zo'or finally reveals the situation surrounding the alien probe.
Uh, this was surprising.
My DVD case for season 2 has Boone featured prominently on the front and back. So imagine my surprise when watching the opening credits of this season premiere, that Kevin Kilner is nowhere to be found and in his place is an actor named Richard Leeshock. (And yes, the opening has changed for a third time, and although this is better than the second iteration of the opening credits, the original is still best.)
Is the actress playing Dr. Park different than the actress who played her in season 1? She looks different. Anyway, Beckett gives birth to her baby 9 hours after conception. It's a boy and he begins to grow at a greatly accelerated rate that only seems to happen in television. He miraculously stops when he reaches his twenties, or else he would have died of old age within an hour. Beckett's mind is conveniently erased by Dr. Park and the Resistance is saved.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Sandoval tells Lili that Boone is dead. I didn't believe it until I saw the credits. Crazy. I liked the character of Boone and didn't think his character was finished at all.
So anyway, Ha'gel is revealed to be a Kimera, a genetic predecessor to the Taelons. Liam, as the baby is named, has all of his father's powers. Well, maybe not all of them, but he does have some kind of weapon coming out of his palms. (Actually, I think it's the same thing that Ro'ha developed in "Pandora Box"). He also has Ha'gel's memories. Yet, even though he must know the true mission of the Taelons, he keeps his mouth shut. (So this is what Lost copied...)
I should also mention that Liam can speak perfect English, despite being a few hours old.
While all this is happening, RepliRayna begins going crazy. She transforms into some kind of transformer form of the probe, making this the 6th appearance of the probe.
At Boone's funeral, Liam is there and has somehow snagged a uniform to wear. He spots a cloaked RepliRayna and dives into Da'an to save her from Rayna's blast. Unfortunately, RepliRayna was aiming for the leader of the Taelons, Quo'on, and he is killed.
This somehow shows that Liam is good at protecting Taelons, so Da'an wants him as Boone's replacement. (Even though he could have easily yelled a warning to all the Taelons there).
Da'an senses that Liam has a link to the Taelons so conveniently does not install a CVI.
Zo'or and Da'an are battling each other for the leadership of the Synod. Zo'or hatches a plan with Sandoval's help, who is firmly on Zo'or's side now, to use Da'an as bait for RepliRayna, which will hopefully kill Da'an and her new protector in the process.
Joshua Doors, seeking information about the probe, goes to the mothership for information. He learns that the probe is from an alien race called the Jaridians who are hunting the Taelons and will destroy Earth when they arrive. It appears as if I guessed right that the probe is not Taelon in origin.
Liam ends up destroying the probe (once and for all?) when he uses the weapon in his palms, much to Da'an's surprise. The episode ends with Zo'or being named Synod leader.
This episode had to be the most action-packed of the whole series. Could that be a sign of things to come for season 2? If that's the case, I don't mind.
There was a lot of plot holes and coincidences this episode, but I still enjoyed it. It felt like a second pilot.
On Kevin Kilner, I enjoyed his performance of Boone. It's still too early to have an opinion about Richard Leeshock.

Keep in mind that this is science fiction television.
One of the reasons why I haven't bought season 2 on DVD yet. I have all the rest.
Then again, it's not quite as bad as Babylon 5 featuring on the Space: Above and Beyond box art.
The mothership was a big jump out of nowhere. We saw a reveal in the later part of S1 (that it was behind the moon) and next thing we know it's parked in Earth Orbit and there's a shitload of humans serving on board.

I only have the first season. They really should have ended the show if they couldn't bother getting Kevin Kilner back.
Yeah, I forgot to mention the humans serving aboard the mothership. wtf is that about?
This is covered in a storyline later on in season 2.
They're called Volunteers. They're humans hired by the Taelons to serve on the Motehrship, performing maintenance-related tasks, though they eventually become the Taelons' security corps. Or more accurately, the Taelons' personal military force.
